Our flight is 7:30pm after the cruise. We have several hours to tour the Ft Lauderdale area. We happened to find the free trolley bus service which meets our needs perfectly. After we got off the cruise at Port Everglades, we took a taxi to the airport (FLL). We stored our luggage at the airport at $6 per bag (cash only). Then we took the free Sun trolley to downtown area. There are several pickup stops at the airport terminals. The Terminal One Stop is located at the west end of the terminal, under a “bus stop” sign. Look for the colorful Sun Trolley label on the Bus Stop sign. The bus runs every hour on the hour from 9am to 4pm from airport. The pickup time from downtown is every hour on 30 after. The last departure from downtown is 4:30pm. Our bus left the Terminal One Stop 10 minutes early. So make sure you arrive at the bus stop a few minutes early.
The downtown stop is located at the History Center. We had a walk in the waterfront area and Las Olas Boulevard. Then we took the Sun Trolley Las Olas Line to go to the beach. The Las Olas line runs along the Las Olas Boulevard. It is $0.5 per person per ride and $2 per person all day ride. Exact change is needed. If you want to save even more, you can go to their website and print out the 2 for 1 coupon. There is a sign on the bus saying that the price will increase to $1/$3 starting 2014. The bus is very easy to spot and convenient. We simply stood along the bus route and waved to stop the bus. The drivers are all very helpful. There is also another bus line running along the beach, which we didn’t take.
Overall, if you have several hours available before or after cruise, the free Sun trolley is an economic and convenient choice.
