My husband was craving stone crabs and we chose Truluck's because it was convenient. The room is very spacious and comfortable. The restaurant was not nearly as busy as the others at the Galleria Mall. We were seated at a comfortable corner banquette and didn't immediately realize that it was next to the door to the kitchen. As the restaurant filled up, a constant parade of servers and busboys made for constant motion past our table.
The server was very pleasant at first and quickly took our order. Salad (the Sonoma) soon arrived and was fine - small amounts of goat cheese, candied pecans and field greens. However, after 20 minutes we were looking for the waitress to find out where the entrees were. Stone crabs are served cold and scallops do not take very long to prepare. The manager walked by and seemed oblivious to our problem. Finally we flagged down the waitress and she went to check, returning with our order. The scallops were underdone, the asparagus tough and tasteless and the mashed potatoes lukewarm and pasty. The stone crabs were very good and should be at $42 for 8 medium ones. The server never checked back to see how everything was and again had to be flagged down and asked to cook the scallops through. Ten minutes passed before they were returned by the manager. All he asked was whether we wanted to order another glass of wine. By now the waitress sensed we were not happy and barely made eye contact with us for the rest of the evening.
We finished dinner and sat for quite a while before one of the many passing busboys noticed the dirty dishes on his way to the kitchen and cheerfully cleared the table. We opted to have our dessert wrapped but the chocolate cake we took home was not worth the calories.
Unfortunately this was a real disappointment with an expensive price tag.
