We are lovers of flea markets/antique fairs, and try to hit one or two where ever we go....so we were very excited to go to the "Swap Shop" in Fort Lauderdale.
What we found was a huge parking lot filled with junk---not antiques or interesting stuff, but dirty, old (again, not antique) junk.
Stuff you would find if you went into a poor neighborhood and went to a yard sale. Stuff that was junk when it was new, but now is old and used and dirty.
One stall had a some nursery lamps from the 50's that were charming but I was amazed at the garbage that was being sold.
The other piece that bothered me was the two Pet Stores that were selling all sorts of birds and puppies and hamsters to folks that looked like the last thing they, or their kids needed or had the resoursed to buy and care for, were more pets.
It was depressing to see.
But on a better note, attached to the swap shop is a fair and open market. The market was wonderful and sold fresh fruit and veggies at very low cost.
Attached was an area with rides for kids. The tickets were priced well and my 4 yr old twins had a blast, riding ride after ride.
It made up for the wasted time, wandering around the junk store in the back!
All in all, if you don't have small kids who will enjoy an afternoon of riding rides, I would skip this one!
