They offer a nice tour of this landmark property. Some of the antiques and paintings we saw were exquisite. Who knew this was in good old Fort Lauderdale? Grounds also had a lot of plants and trees so we were temporarily shielded from the bustle and noise of the city

The Bonnet House is a must see, another world in the middle of a big town. Hundreds of acres of imaginative landscaping, and a house so original it defies ready description--beautiful, but in an off-beat and interesting way--nothing stuffy about this mansion. The history behind this property is as interesting as anything you see, so be sure to take the tour. These are founders of Fort Lauderdale, when it was a beautiful wildnerness. Enough to make you nostalgic for the old Florida.

The talented and reknown artist Frederic Bartlett married several times. He saw his wife and son, as well as his step-daugther die in his lifetime. However, his second wife ensured him a legacy by leaving this 35 acre estate as is, paintings and all. Dane Jensen does a spectacular job narrating the tour. Animals we saw today were an iguana, swans and turtles. They offer a golf cart tour, but if you plan the visit you can easily do it on foot and be on time for the tour.

Bonnet House is not your typical mansion by the sea house tour. It was built by a working artist from Chicago to resemble a Caribbean plantation house and looks like it would be very comfortable to live in. There are appealing paintings on display and many interesting objects to look at.
The gardens have many rare trees and plants to see. It sits on 35 acres of land which was fun to see from the plane on the way home.
