“An enjoyable afternoon”

A unusual place that was once the home of a famous artist and his writer wife in Ft Lauderdale. A typical example of south florida architecture, with open hallyways and verandas.

“Beautiful, Informative, Peaceful”
Reviewed May 21, 2012

The Bonnet House is a great way to spend your time. It's so peaceful to just sit, gaze and wonder what it must have been like to actually live on such an estate. The guide provides great information, and you actually get to see things "as they were" in the previous years. You learn the history of the people who owned the plantation (one of the caregivers still living), how they spent their days, and how much land has been given away, etc. It's amazing to see some of the clothes they wore and to even feel some of their emotion through the stories of the tour guide. You won't be disappointed. Go!

“Check out what old, wealthy Florida was like.”

If you're on Fort Lauderdale Beach, you should go see this. Beautiful home and gardens, and I understand it's maintained almost exactly the way it was when it was the only home on the beach. Imagine being all by yourself on that great beach.

“Informative, unique and enjoyable”
Reviewed May 16, 2012 via mobile

My husband and I consulted Trip Advisor for things to do during our first stay in Fort Lauderdale and happened on the Bonnet House. Spent about two hours touring the plantation style house and grounds built by Frederic Bartlett, an arist from Chicago. Well worth the admission (about $20 per person). Filled with art works by the Bartletts and many quirky art objects collected during their travels. Delightful!
