Our family of four (two young daughters) stayed at this Westin for a 2nd time this summer. It has one of the best locations on the A1A part of Fort Lauderdale. The rooms are clean, and the prices are much more affordable compared to the Hilton or Atlantic.

As for the check-in staff, our feelings were mixed. With the exception of a few (did not remember their names), most of the team is rude and are in a serious need of a career change. They never smile or show much empathy when being told of a bad experience. Stay away from the young staff. Wait for someone older. For some reason, the senior agents were nicer.

On the other hand, the pool staff is out of this world!!! Especially the pool manager, Ray, who never seems to stop smiling. Even when the temperature reaches 100 degrees. Have any questions? Ask Ray! Need help in the hotel? Ask Ray! Need towels, Sun Umbrella...? Ask Ray! In fact, we are not sure we would go back a 3rd time if this man was no longer staff.

As for the restaurant/bar by the pool, you want to ask for Charlotte, a bright young lady who has a great spirit and loves to work with the public. With her, you do not have to feel bad to ask for extra this or that.

Hope my review helps.

Room Tip: Choose an ocean view. Worth paying extra

Just spent labor day weekend at this hotel. Hotel was clean and had lots of ammenities. The staff was excellent, in particular one associate by the name of Jason. Helped me and my friends out with everything we needed while hanging out by the pool. Thank you Jason!!!

Room was great. Staff was friendly. Food was good. I'm used to doing all inclusive vacations so this was a change for me. Food ptions was good and the strip had other food options as well. With that said, the prices were pricey. But, given that you are staying at a major chain right on the beach, you can expect to pay for it. I expected this because i'd done my homework. I requested a fridge (not standard) for the room during my reservations so I could bring and store snacks. No microwave in the rooms. Would be awesome to gave to heat up leftovers from doggy bags. Pool was great but not a clear shot of the beach and ocean while in the pool. The pool staff was exceptional! Very attentive. The sushi bar was fantabulous! Starbucks is on site... with free wireless. The guest rooms does not have free wireless. That was a bummer. Shulas restaurant did have free wireless. Just a heads up in case you need to cgdck mail or surf the web and don't want to pay for it. I would stay here again since I know what to expect. If you are a mid lifer like me, stay during the week and leave on the weekend. It is quieter during the week. The spa was nice. Good service. "Ok" pedicure. I've had much better, but at least I didn't have to do them myself. I only say this because I do frequent spas regularly and overall, it was average. But definitely do the whirlpool in the spa! Awesome! Ya just have to pay to use it. LOL... yes, not free...

Huge rooms, super clean, the beds are so comfy. Excellent location right by the beach. Plenty of restaurants within walk in distance. The service was excellent. They checked us in right away at 8am when we arrived there, and extended our check out for free. Got a pretty good price but other little things that are not included add up, like parking at 28 dollars a day and umbrella for the beach 20 a day, but these are optional. We did not use the rental car that much anyways, and you can bring your own umbrella if you like and still use their 2 free chairs per room. I would suggest if you plan to just stay at the beach or pool the whole time then skip the rental car, get a taxi to there and then back to the airport. Overall super pleased with the hotel.

We usually take an annual jaunt to Delray beach for fun in the sun, music, food, dancing , all on a strip but our hotel's pool there was being refurbished so we decided on a new adventure with an additional aim of avoiding a rental car. We decided on Ft Lauderdale in a place on the strip with walkability to restaurants, nightlife and with a view of the ocean. A short cab ride to the airport was key. This place fulfilled all those requirements and more. We had a lovely ocean view room in the south tower. Bed is very comfy. Not a huge fan of the louvered bathroom door this Westin has like some others do but not a deal breaker. The off season prices made this a good value especially since you can accrue points as a Starwood guest.
Hotel is clean, modern. You need to use the concierge more since it's hard to come by brochures on things to do and attractions except by word of mouth. We found out about the trolleys about day3 - a worthy thing to know. 50c one way or a day pass is $2 - fun n easy. You just wave them down wherever.
Pool is nicely maintained and the young men in charge of towels, including Joe, Ray, are extremely gracious and accommodating. Umbrella at the pool is free. It got a bit busy with the holiday weekend and there were lots of kids Sat especially - cute but crowded on the small shallow end. One day we checked out the pool area at the Hilton a block away for comaprison and it was horrid! They had a DJ blaring music so loudly we couldn't hear ourselves talk. They were also crowded but overall rowdier. (the area in general seems to be trying to become So Beach junior but less crowded and in your face.)
There is an overhead passage across the road to get to the beach but unfortunately we had major issues with it not working well for the elevator ride from beach to 2nd floor coming off the beach so we had to navigate traffic all but 1 time coming back. Chaises go quickly on the beach and also pool depending on hotel volume. Get to the beach by 9/9:30 if it's busy. Umbrellas for the day are $20 on the beach but worth it. Beach is lovely, clean and has seashells :) Not a jellyfish in sight. Lifeguards are on their game keeping wayward jetskiis and small boats in their areas.
Beach is awesome. We love the warm Atalantic water of So FL this time of year. It's perfect if you like calm clean warm ocean water.
For food, Shula's on the beach is on site - pricey but amazing steaks. For cheaper fare take a block walk to Casablanca Cafe. Fresh, delish and reasonable in a quaint old Spanish style cottage. Substitute shrimp when you can, as in salads, it's just so fresh and delish. Fish tacos are divine. A longer walk or trolley ride to Coconuts is well worth it (separate review to follow - hint; we went twice!). Walk back and experience cafes on the strip, live guitar music and dance venues. One night we heard an amazing Spanish guitarist (Alex Fox) at Cafe del Mar then caught a rock band at Lulu's Bait shop in the same complex they have a covenient CVS pharmacy. OMG was it a blast! Danced for hours and succumbed to a fishbowl sized margarita at Cefe del Mar. Recovered at the beach the next day. :)
Land or water taxi can take you to other great eateries. For an upscale experience try Johhny V's on Las Olas, Grille 66 just across the causeway and for drinks/creative mixology Voodka. Las Olas is definitely not walkable but worth a trolley ride to check out more upscale shops and galleries and of course restaurants.Trolleys run till 6:30 so a short cab ride back to beach venue and returning on foot is still doable and advisable.
Back to the hotel. Starbucks downstairs is great, convenient but also coffemaker in room. We had a small fridge in our room. Breakfast at the hotel is good but pricey and slow.
Did not use the spa or fitness room but the fitness room seems well used and faces the beach.
Our fitness was primarily at the beach. You can walk, run, swim for miles and cool off as needed.

It was an amazing vacation. :)

Room Tip: Hi up. We liked our south tower location as it goes straight down to Stabucks and pool is very accessible still. We enjoyed our ocean view room. Keep in mind balcony is not functional, just a barrier beyond full sized doors basically.
