Owner description: The Historic Stranahan House Museum is the City's oldest surviving structure. The story of the Stranahan House is the story of a family, a house, and a city. The Stranahan House was built in 1901 by Frank Stranahan, Fort Lauderdale's founding father, and his wife Ivy Cromartie Stranahan, the area's first school teacher. The house has served as a trading post, post office, community center, town hall and home to the Stranahans. The Stranahan House has stood at the center of Fort Lauderdales growth since it was built and played a significant role in the economic and social life of this community. Open daily for guided House tours at 1, 2, and 3pm. Special events, weddings, and holiday programs.

This is the oldest house in Ft. Lauderdale. Frank Stranahan was the man who actually settled Ft. Lauderdale. A tour is available and I strongly suggest taking it. It is an hour long and filled with all the historical details of this attraction. In front of the house is the New River where you can also watch the boats and yachts go by. The Stranahan House is well worth visiting whenever you may be in the Ft. Lauderdale area.

The Stranahan House was beautifully decorated for Christmas with the tree full of high-end décor which were all donated. The tour gave the group a good scare, when we all heard knocking and steps behind us only to realize there was no one there. The history there is amazing, definitely recommend.

If you are a history buff or just want to know a bit more about Ft Lauderdale this is a great place to go to.
It is convenient (Just off LasOlas near the Cheese Cake Factory) and the tours appeal to all ages.
They even do a ghoast tour in the evenings that includes a boat ride on the New River
An enjoyable to get to know old Ft Lauderdale

Thanks to George and Dottie for making this a special visit. Visit this attraction if you really want to understand what it took to establish a place of commerce in South Florida.

Very interesting look at the lives of people who lived here before it was well populated. The docent was fantastic; she really knew her stuff. So very interesting to see the history of an early entrepreneur. Loved every minute and will probably go back.
