“Great "Old Florida" experience!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 16, 2008

We had to stay overnight in Fort Lauderdale after a cruise, and needed something to do in the afternoon with three kids who were coming off their first cruise (and therefore used to something new and great everyday!) We saw the ad for Everglades Holiday Park in the local South Florida guide which had a coupon for $3 off adults and $2 off children (who must be 11 and under)

The place was packed when we pulled up, full of locals for the fishing and tourists for the taking. The cost for our family of five was $75 (with coupons, tax, and oldest daughter was considered an adult) for both the one hour airboat tour and the alligator "wrestling" show. Have just come off a cruise, this was one cheap shore excursion (think of it this way, it was $15 pp). To add to the shore excursion feel of the place, they even took our photo before the tour and offered it for sale for $10 when we returned (we did buy it, it was great looking and $10 5x7 plus a keychain...i.e. we forgot the camera at the hotel!!)

The tour was with an old-salt "I live in the Everglades" guide who was awesome. We learned "a bunch of factual useless stuff" about the Everglades, enjoyed whipping through the Glades at high speeds and saw three adult alligators, one three year old and one baby less than a foot long. In addition, we learned about and saw native birds, exotic species and iguanas (big four footers up in the trees!) Our guide made sure everyone got to see the gators we came across. Our older daughter, who is highy skeptical of everything, actually enjoyed the tour (red letter day).

The alligator demostration afterwards was short, informative and pure old florida tourist trap at its finest. We absolutely loved it, and tipped generously.

This is not for everyone--but for family fun and a nostalgic trip back to the touristy Florida of the fities/sixties that I could share with my kids--well worth it!

“A dump! don't waste your money (Jan 08) way overpriced!”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 25, 2008

Holiday Everglades Park is run down, a dump... the toilets are filthy. We took the one hour "guided" airboat ride in Jan 2008. We saw 2 alligators. Unfortunately, no one could hear what the guide was saying. He sits up on top of the boat, you cannot see him, and the sound of his voice was barely coming in. You would hear the beginning of the sentence and then have a hard time hearing the end of what he says. The whole hour was a waste. Evereyone in the boat said the same thing - could not hear a thing! For $22+ you buy an unguided boat ride and a load of frustration-you will leave feeling frustrated and cheated. The boats look old and that may be the reason for the bad sound system. I will never go back! On top of it all - a 12 yr old child is considred an adult paying same $22 !!!!! Next time, I will go to a different evergladed park.

“We enjoyed it - tacky tourist trap and all!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 10, 2008

We were there Dec. 29, 2007 and had a great time! It was one of those experiences where we couldn't quite tell if it was authentic or tacky or just tacky enough to be authentic -- doesn't matter though, we really enjoyed ourselves. Right down to the gruff paranoid-drunk-sounding-conspiracy-theory type of guide - it was perfect old school south Florida, whether it was real or not, who cares? We (2 adults, 2 kids aged 11 and 8) enjoyed the airboat ride a great deal and yes, we saw birds, a huge iguana, and alligators too. I couldn't quite tell if it was an act that the guide was surprised to see so many alligators, or if there were plants that were there all the time, but again, we were on holiday and it was fun. It is quite beautiful out there. The facility itself is a dump - but again, I think that is part of the old school allure - hand painted signs and kind of crumbling looking. If it were a fancy new outpost it wouldn't quite work. Anyways, we definitely recommend it for a fun experience, especially with kids.

“Unforgettable experience !”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 13, 2007

We had an absolutely fabulous time at the Park. I can highly recommend going there, we had a truly amazing experience. We took the trip on the airboat and we had a local resident as the captain. He was very informed about the everglades, the wildlife and the plants. He put his heart in his job. It was low season and there was only one other couple on the boat. It was such an unforgettable experience flying thru the water thru the grass and then total peace and quiet as he turned off his engine. Beautiful. Got to see several gators in the wild, which probably made a world of difference compared to those who took this trip and saw nothing. It’s an experience I will treasure for a life time. I do recommend that you print out the voucher that they have on their website, this will save you a couple of $$$. I do agree with previous posters that it is quite expensive for one hour. I would also agree with the previous posters that the alligator show at the end is not that great, you end up feeling sorry for the gator, and the fence is shabby and not suitable for kids, if you lean against it, the chance of it falling apart is very high.

We drove up to the rundown looking shack in anticipation, paid for our boat ride tickets, expensive considering what you get for your buck, and got our cameras ready.

We saw 3 little baby alligators during the 1 hour tour and possibly a fake cement one near the end of the ride. I knew the outlook for seeing gators was dimming when the tour guide kept speeding up the boat, trying to give us a thrill ride, to somehow make up for the lack of gators.

The show after was even worse. He dragged the tired looking alligator out of the water and did the standard open mouth trick and sitting on its back. Afterwards the gator walked away bored, maybe more bored then us.

Avoid this ripoff. Go to an exotic pet store instead if you want to see alligators close up.
