We went to this restaurant 3 times while staying in Flagler Beach for 2 weeks. The first visit was a lunch. My wife had the grilled Wahoo. It was a nice sized portion and cooked just right. I had the seafood chowder-caution -spicy! The next 2 times were for breakfast. The shrimp & grits was very good as well as the frittata. Get a seat by the window for a nice view of the pier and water.

We had been waiting for several months for this place to reopen...Went as a party of four on Feb. 13 for late lunch. Outside is not that attractive..No sign. The inside is nice, so much better then the place before it..Lots of windows, and great view of ocean, beach and pier. Love the outside deck and bar..will be nice in the evenings when its not raining. The decor needs some work inside..nothing really bright or eye catching..tables nice, but the chairs are tacky and uncomfortable after you sit for a while. The menu is limited to say the least, and expensive, not a wide variety of things to choice from. We had the grilled fish sandwich, the fried blacked cod meal, a burger and a salmon salad. The fish dishes were dry and tasteless...they don't season anything it seems. Fries with everything..but not terrific ones. No green salad, just slaw. Had to ask for condiments, but did not help the dry fish much. Iced tea and lemonade were powered as it tasted like powder. Glass glasses of wine and overpriced. Service was ok, but the servers seemed unsure of things, and confused at times..Had to wait for over 35 min for food, as we were told that the kitched was behind..the servers just stood against the door, and did not refill glasses or anything. Did not stay for dessert. Would we come here again...no, probably not. Live in the area, but other places have much better food, and more choices for a much lower price. They need to work on there menu. use more local fish, not frozen stuff. More veggies and salad items. and find a bakery that had good bread. No bread or butter served on table, and items all served in wire baskets...Guess they dont want to wash dishes?

Party of six on a Wednesday at noontime -

Comments - Positive:
Mini crab cakes excellent
Broccoli slaw good
Raspberry cheesecake very good
Carrot cake excellent
Death by chocolate excellent

Comments - Negative:
Water tasted funny
Slow service
Swimming reuben tasteless and no dressing
Fish and chips - frozen haddock, not fresh
French fries cold
Caesar salad with shrimp - shrimp overcooked and tough
Decaf coffee weak
$8.42 for a small piece of cheesecake - get real!
$50+ for lunch for two people with tax, tip, no alcohol, and so-so food - unacceptable.

Would we go back - five out of six = no.

Will write this one off.

Ate today at the Funky Pelican, disappointing to say the least. Had read the reviews both positive and negative but still wanted to try them. Both my friend and I had the Clams with garlic butter over linguini. Hers was so watery she had to send hers back, to which they apparently drained the liquid and just added more garlic! Mine wasn't watery but lacked flavor. A large portion of pasta with maybe 6 baby clams on top - with zero flavor. The lettuce in my Caesar salad was not very crispy or fresh, but tasted ok. The key lime pie and the carrot cake for desert were both good, however even the key lime taste seemed lacking in the lime flavor. Our waitress didn't come back once to see if things were ok. My friend had to actually go find a staff person to get the wet pasta taken care of. One feels like they have line cooks who don't have a clue about cooking or being an actual chef. I realize the restaurant just opened, but I'm sorry there are just too many really great restaurants around for me to take a chance on going back to this one. Can't recommend this restaurant at all.

The food was very very good! The portions were more than enough! The greeting we received upon entering was nothing short of warm and welcoming. Denise, the hostess was so very sweet. The view was spectacular. The waitress could have smiled a bit more but I think she was just slammed. The restaurant was very busy! Will go back again and again. In addition, I can't wait until the weather warms up and make it to the outside bar!!
