Was visiting Amelia Island for the first time in July and loved it. 29 south eats is a small restaurant in an old house. The food was very good.Started with the lobster corn dog which was unbelievable. The scallops and fresh fish were amazing.

Wonderful food, great atmosphere and service. The shrimp & grits dinner was delicious, with tons of shrimp. Great burger too.

My wife and I travel a great deal and restaurants can be appealing for a variety of reasons, but 29 South simply has delicious food, delicious and this was our 12th visit. We have sent friends there with the suggestion they start by having lunch there and then decide whether they should come back for dinner. All have and all have said it was one of the best dinners they have ever had... anywhere. Reviewer "harngtngrp" below says it well. Really friendly staff and a funky bistro setting, looks more casual then you will experience with the terrific menu and wine selection. My wife and I are wine-os, just came back from the Sancerre and Burgundy, but we tried a Bennett Family Chardonay, suggested by our server Gregg that we had never heard of, and it was both delicious and resaonable. Have to do lunch there, you may have to wait, but it's worth it. Reservations for dinner make well ahead, maybe before you even arrive on Amelia Island. For Sunday Brunch, reservations a must, call Robby the day manager, a really great guy. Guys, trust me on this one, for lunch have the BBQ Pulled Pork salad (yes, salad) with fried green tomatoes and corn bread, a huge and delicious meal. You will eat it all and probably not stop to talk during. My wife said, "Breath honey, breath!". For lunch , the wife loves the grilled romaine salad with chicken. For Sunday Brunch we had shimp & grits with andouille sausage, awesome, as good as it gets, but then dinner takes it up yet another notch. More about dinner next time.

Among the best in a resort town is often damning with faint praise, but in Fernandina where several restaurants can vie for excellent ratings, 29 South comes out on top. Comfortable but in style, the surroundings and staff make guests feel at home as well as welcome to stay and enjoy, rather that hustle and run. The menu is creative, with fresh farm-to-table ingredients, that combine old world favorites, fresh caught quality, and nouvelle cuisine ideas in great entrees. Twists such as grilled romaine salad with cured bacon and deep fried peach pie topped with Working Cow (a local purveyor) ice cream are examples of great tastes to pick. The wine list is interesting and good, including some excellent east coast selections such as White Hall Viognier (VA). For an evening for two or a larger party, seating allows comfortable dining. Noise levels are tolerable inside to permit conversations as well. A first choice in Fernandina Beach.
