“One of the best meals we've had in a long while”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 20, 2013

We went to Joe's for a special anniversary meal and we were not disappointed. I had the lamb (a tradition I've had since our honeymoon in Scotland 16 years ago) and my wife had the prime rib. The prime rib is their specialty every weekend and it was hands down one of the best prime ribs either of us have ever had. We found a nice Riesling to go with our meal too. A lot of what we ordered was suggested by the waiter and he was right on every time. We really enjoyed our visit here and look forward to returning.

“Maybe a 3 1/2”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 19, 2013

The place is beautiful. Blues and whites, nice linen tablecloths and napkins. Very nicely appointed. Outside was closed due to rain tonight. We had high expectations, and the first impression was great. A nice cozy window seat. And, the service throughout was excellent. The food, however, was mostly show and no go.
Presentations were excellent. My wife had the tuna martini. Pieces of sushi grade tuna with pineapple, avacado, and mango in a martini glass. Stunning. But, the avacado and mango were not ripe, and took away from the dish totally.
I had the soup du jour, a shrimp bisque. Described as just a touch spicy. Can taste the spice, but not at all hot. Not at all true. So hot it was all I tasted. Nice pieces of shrimp, in a nice creamy broth..........but, too hot to taste anything at all.
I had the grouper in banana leaf. Wrong choice. The fish itself was good, and well cooked. But it was smothered in a salsa, and sitting on top of very bland black beans and rice. Awful.
My wife had the shrimp and veal. The veal and the sauce were excellent. But the sauce did not pair well with the shrimp at all.
Honestly, the best we found in Fernandina Beach on this, our first trip. But, disappointing over all. Great intentions by the chef. Very creative, and wonderful presentations. The taste just did not match the effort.
And, yes, expensive for what we received. $27-29 an entree.......just not worth it.

“Pleasant evening in the courtyard”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 12, 2013

Dined here on a Friday with three other couples. We hadn't been here in several years because our first experience was just so average, slow service and pricey items that weren't in the least bit worth it.
Flash forward 7 years, and the menu is still pricey. Our server was attentive, but again, the kitchen was very slow...at least 45 minutes. Those that had prime rib commented that it was quite good. Fish specials that were well prepared, but really the grits were not the best, and were gluey and cold by the time the fish landed on top and they arrived at the table.
But the evening was pleasant, good weather, good company, and good wine.
I guess we'll have to try it again in 7 more years and see if anything has changed....

“Side Street Gem”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 10, 2013

Joe's is off the main drag in the town of Fernandina Beach so it can be easily missed. If you go down the side street, you won't be disappointed. The food was delicious. I think my seafood pasta was by far the best meal of my trip. I highly recommend making a reservation just to request a seat outside in their courtyard. The staff was very courteous and went above and beyond. My father left his debit card at the restaurant and by the time we realized what had happened, we were already on our way home to Pittsburgh. They made sure to mail it to him and for that I'm grateful. The extra step always matters and the next time we're down to Amelia Island on vacation, we'll be sure to visit again!

“Up with the best”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 7, 2013

The food at this Bistro is very good. There are many restaurants to choose from in Fernandina Beach and this is one of the tops.
We dined on the eve of the Shrimp Festival so it was pretty full but this did not detract from the service and quality of food.
We took the precaution of booking a table which was a wise move.
