The food at this Bistro is very good. There are many restaurants to choose from in Fernandina Beach and this is one of the tops.
We dined on the eve of the Shrimp Festival so it was pretty full but this did not detract from the service and quality of food.
We took the precaution of booking a table which was a wise move.

Unfortunately we could not sit in the courtyard, too wet... Inside this restored old house you find comfortable dining areas on two levels. We liked that tables are not too close too each other. Food was delicious. Two of us had their special: delicately prepared snapper. Really great. Other dishes were all enjoyed including their apple bread pudding. Service was friendly and professional.
Good choice.

I usually get the grouper broiled in corn husk, however last week had the snapper special! Outstanding food and service!

This was another great recommendation from Todd at the Hampton (across the street). We had stopped and looked at their outside menu a few times as we left the hotel. A little pricey was our reaction each time. The selections looked great, but would it be worth the price. It definitely was! With reservations we were seated immediately.

Stephanie was our waitress. The restaurant was busy but she took the time to answer our many questions and made great suggestions. I am a steak lover but have been burned so many times that I hesitate ordering one when I'm out. The Bistro has two on their menu. A fillet and a new york strip. The fillet would have been the safer choice but the NY strip, done right is the best. Stephanie said, "No one can cook a steak like Rick can (the chef & owner).
I chose the NY strip and could not have been happier. Cooked to perfection!

My wife picked the Seafood Bouillabaisse. It had more than a generous amount of seafood in it, including large pieces of lobster. In addition to some wine we finished off a great meal by splitting a dessert. The Apple Bread Pudding. (another perfect Stephanie suggestion). We planned on only a few bites each, but soon the dessert plate was empty.

As we were finishing, Mary (Rick's wife) who runs the Bistro with Rick, came by our table to see if we were happy with our meal. After bragging on the dinner we asked if Rick could join us so we could tell him how much we enjoyed what he had cooked. He did and it was obvious how much he enjoyed being a chef. It was close to closing so he had time to share a few cooking secrets and a little history about his building. When you go to the Bistro ask Rick to tell you about the water color paintings on the walls. It is a great story.

As we left the 2nd Street Bistro, we felt as though we had just had a great meal with our good friends, Stephanie, Mary and Rick.

Can't wait to go back!

When I hear that a place is under new management. I'm a bit skeptical. Well, I think this dinner topped them all.
Service great, food extremely tasty, atmosphere just right. Pricey, but worth it.

Try the chocolate terrine for an unforgettable dessert.
