David’s restaurant aspires to be a gourmet restaurant, and they are very close to be one! The Menu is tempting and the food is very good. David’s restaurant is still a quite new place and not everything runs 100% smooth, but I am confident this will become an excellent restaurant. You will not be disappointed when going to David’s!

We went for a birthday dinner with visiting relatives. We all liked the decor and the "Leather Lounge" looks very nice though there was no crowd there or in the restaurant on a Tuesday night. We all had an appetizer and an entree plus two bottles of wine and one cocktail for around $330 with tip. This is expensive for Fernandina but the food was all pretty good and the service was excellent-kudos to our waiter Michael. Husband usually picks one of the "economical" wines but our Merlot was good enough for us to get a second bottle and not more marked up than any other restaurant around.
I had soft shell crab with excellent grits, one had a good steak and two had seafood with very good perfectly cooked scallops. One person had escargot in puff pastry first and the others had good soup. I had a salad that was not memorable but was good. The portions were big enough that we were not really hungry for dessert. The dessert menu included the usual creme brulee, something chocolate, something fruit etc which may have been good but the description did not tempt us.
The owners and staff realize that prices and offerings are ambitious for here. They try to offer items brought in from elsewhere as opposed to local only that is usual here. There is room for both kinds of restaurants. I would go here again and recommend the restaurant for a special occasion. We had a very nice and slightly different dining experience.

Thank you for your input. We want to different and give some interesting foods like English Channel Dover Sole and Soft Shell Crabs & Grits. Our meats are all prime cuts that do cost more if you want the best quality. We offer locally caught fish specials that change daily as there is such a huge array to choose from and it does change with the seasons. I am glad you had a very good dinning experience.. All of our desserts are made on premise and our breads as well. We do look forward to seeing you soon again at David's.

Our anticipation for going to this new restaurant for the first time was high. It was visually striking. Service proved a mixture of skilled persons those less so, making a large team that was not at times a team. The pieces proved predictable sometimes--lapses that had to be taken care of--and a mixture of attitudes from helpful to haughty on the other. The food ranged from good to not so good, although the cost was high. Certainly we will go one more time when it is less close to when the restaurant opens. Our intention at present is to eat in the bar area when there is entertainment our next visit and listen and watch for signs of improvement otherwise.

Thank you for the candid review. I do agree that as a new restaurant with so many steps involved in fine dining one can not hire all of the same caliber of server. But with time and experience and training on a continuous basis we feel we have achieved a close to seamless choreography between the kitchen and the floor. Wines of over 270 must be learned and experienced to truly understand the characteristics and notes of the wine. Our chefs are all hugely talented and the collaboration together is unmatched anywhere. Thank you again and we do look forward to meeting you again at David's.

David's offers everything for entertainment. It is the best gourmet restaurant on the island, hands down. Every entree we tried has been tasty and satisfying and beautifully presented. The wine list is extensive with several international varieties. The servers make excellent recommendations for food and wine pairings. The desserts melt in your mouth. The soufflés are a must try. The chocolate brownie pie is a huge burst of dark creamy chocolate but big enough for 2-3 persons.
However, some evenings we go to David's not to dine but to be entertained. They have a lounge furnished with overstuffed leather chairs and soft lighting where a Grammy award winning Sax player performs. This alone is worth a trip. There is an attentive wait staff designated just for the lounge and they will serve a variety of beverages and even nibbles and dessert if you wish. Whether you go for the lounge music or dinner ( or both), enjoy the rustic but elegant decor. Ask to visit the wine cellar whose door was once the top of an oak barrel. Whatever you take in at David's, it will leave you happy.
