We were just passing through town and were looking for a good accomodation at a good rate. Amelia Hotel definitely fit the bill! If we had the time we would have stayed longer. Awesome location right across the street from the beach, newly refurnished and spacious rooms, friendly staff, friendly atmosphere overall, a great breakfast and just a short drive to the historical downtown area. Seems popular with young families as there were several of them at breakfast. Yet, we were surprised at how quiet the rooms were - we never heard a thing! In all, Amelia is a great town, very charming and with some great dining. When you're in town, stay at the Amelia Hotel at the Beach!

We recently stayed here and had never been to the area before. We knew we wanted to be near the beach, so we chose this hotel. Everything was immaculate! Decent breakfast, and staff was very nice. However, their printer needs to be replaced, and the pool doesn't need to be shocked at 11am and then not be able to be used for 1 and 1/2 hours on a Tues. This would be better done at 7am!! This hotel looks like it has had a recent redo, which is nice, but pool chairs need to be replaced also.
All in all, we had a quiet stay, beautiful weather and agreat sleep at night- no noise!! We would come again.

Room Tip: We had no problem with our room !

This was a great find. Stayed in a suite 200 for 5 nights mid-April, which was perfect for us and our 2+ year old toddler. We're used to large spaces, and this room was really nice size, king bed with very comfortable mattress, a microwave, small refrigerator, coffee-maker, many sitting furniture, including a love-seat which we “converted” into our toddler’s bed that he loved, although hotel would have provided a pack-and-play for free as well. 2 huge flat screens (we spent most time outside, but still nice), and a great bathroom with Jacuzzi (our son just loved to “swim” in it every evening), a large walk-in shower, 2 sinks. Balcony was great – we could sit out after our toddler’s bed-time. Long hallway was great for leaving beach stuff in, and not drag too much sand inside the main living area. Otherwise, the room is just like pictured on the photos, and I must say we were all feeling it exceeded our expectations.
In room, I would only add a small table, high enough for eating on – there are two chairs that just seem to be begging to have a table. Could have used it for eating our nuked left-overs for lunch. And the traffic noise outside takes a little getting used to for non-city people, but did not bother me too much after the first night. I always travel with my earplugs anyway on account of being a light sleeper.
Full hot and cold breakfast, included in room price, was a really nice touch, and we enjoyed it every morning. Thank you and kudos to the staff for setting it up nicely, and also for being helpful with our requests, questions, and for maintaining the hotel and room in such a clean state. The room was cleaned daily and perfectly.
The traffic circle outside was our evening entertainment. There is no real party or night life in the immediate area, which was great for us, who came there just to relax. The Restaurant across form the hotel is under renovation, but is open for business. As any parent would tell you – a safe playground on-site of a beach restaurant is a mega-bonus. We could sip our Margaritas and eat our food in peace, while our kid got his energy out, periodically running to our table to steal a shrimp.
Beach was really good, and really close to the hotel. We rented an umbrella and a boogie-board from the shop next door, and got a ton of use out of those. I would recommend renting instead of going “let’s just buy a cheap one”, since we saw the cheap boards snapping in halves by tiny waves, while our rental was like a cruise liner of boogies in comparison, and not for all THAT much more.
There are many things to do to break up your beach vacation (if you are there for long, and can drag yourself away from water) – we walked the lush green nature trails (there is an entrance to it behing one of the nearby hotels), went to Fort Clinch park (a very short drive) – worth going, and the park area and trails are fabulous too! There is also a fishing pier, campgrounds, and more – we would have to return to do all that too. The park has an entrance fee, so be prepared with some cash. The town of Fernandina Beach has many restaurants and shops, and a docking pier, and pirate-themed stuff. Very nice for strolling before and after dinner, or even stopping in for lunch.
We recommend renting a car, if flying into JAX. The car pick-up right at terminal, and the drive from the airport are super-easy… there are like 3 turns – left-right-right, and you’re there. But it definitely gives you flexibility in your time-spending choices. Plus there are many stores– Publix, CVS, and such, where you can get anything you need – water, beer, etc. The stores are very close to the hotel, but still far enough to make walking back to the room with bags too heavy.
Overall – a great vacation spot, unless you are looking to party Miami-South-Beach style. Sliders (the beach restaurant with playground) had live music EVERY NIGHT we were there, and that was plenty for us. We are definitely going back!

Room Tip: Balcony room for views of the ocean

This hotel is conveniently located to beach and local dining. Full breakfast was great, and afternoon cookies were an added treat.

My husband and I recently stayed here for 3 nights. We spend the first 2 nights in the King Terrace Suite - VERY nice - the room was exactly how it looks on their website. We slept very well here and had no complaints. Balcony was lovely, except that the view was one of renovations on a restaurant arcoss the street (not the hotels fault of course) and it on somewhat of a busy intersection. We could also see the ocean though, which was beautiful. The rooms were very clean.
The 3rd night we stayed in a King Balcony room. The room itself was fairly standard with a nice balcony and view. However, the noise from the adjacent room was bothersome. We could hear every conversation in the room next to us and resorted to running the fan/AC at all times.
Breakfast was pretty good - a decent selection, although one morning the bisquits were hard and tasted as if they were leftovers from the day before.
The pool area was nice, and although it was next to the parking lot, was quiet. Could have used more shaded areas near the pool.
Service was friendly but not overly helpful. We asked to find a few specific places on the Island and were told "I don't know, I really can't tell you" and instead of trying to find out for us, it was just left at that.
We'd consider staying again if we stayed in the King Terrace Suite, but maybe not otherwise.

I have wanted to stay here for years when my next trip to Amelia came around. Well my sisters and daughter decided it was time to head back there. We had a wondereful time and if you want to be by the beach it is perfect. The good parts, being able to walk across the street and be right at the beach, we got to see 3 wonderul sunrises. The view from our room in either direction was beautiful, although the restaurant across the street is undergoing a big transformation so that view was not as wonderful. The rooms were very spacious and despite having 4 girls in the room, I never felt crowded.
The staff was very helpful, and they all seemed like they really enjoy their jobs, which is a nice change of pace. Parking is free. The breakfast was standard, scrambled eggs, sausage and biscuits. After that is the standard continentel breakfast, it was a nice combination. The coffee all 3 days was weak, but that is a minor thing for me. The large flat screen was a nice addition. The wet bar and fridge and granite there in the bathroom provided a nice touch.
The housekeeping staff was also phenomenal- one of the best that I have ever seen. The room was immaculate and we left it quite dirty!!
Now the negatives- The hallways need a huge update, carpet was worn and old looking. I thought the rooms would have been updated some by looking at the pics online from the website. The beds just were not the comfy beds that you would expect from a hotel these days. The bathtub was cracked and the bathroom except for the granite sink really needs updating. Hint to hotels...not sure we need bathtubs any longer- the last few places I have stayed and paid around the same the baths were luxurious and had great big walk in showers. These are minor things though and I would definately come back again, and hopefully will soon.
Thanks for your hospitality Amelia Hotel at the Beach!!
