We booked the hotel and then read the reviews - not our normal routine but in a rush !!
The reviews re the trains were a bit of a concern BUT when we got to the hotel we were completely put at rest to find that the train track was a "Spur to nowhere" and we only had one lone engine pass the hotel during our two day stay on the property --- noise - what noise - the A/C unit made more noise than the train
Can only say that the reviews re train noise must have been submitted on the one day a year when the "Spur to nowhere" went somewhere or there was confussion with regard to the A/C unit noise - which, by the way, wasn't that excessive if you are used to the "In window" type of A/C unit.
We had a great stay with a room overlooking the river, very comfortable, exceptionally clean and well appointed - very friendly staff and a great breakfast -- hot and cold with plenty of choice
Lastly - the location is fantastic - three excellent restaurants within yards of the hotel - especially Joes and then the shops, bars etc are only a VERY short walk away - once we parked, the car it was forgotten - everything is within walking distance

We enjoyed a "free" night thanks to some HHonors points that we had accumulated. The hotel is in a perfect location in historic Fernandina Beach on Amelia Island. It is next to the marina, shops, restaurants and more! The hotel offers free off-street parking, free wi-fi, swimming pool, free deluxe continental breakfast, free USA Today and decent rooms. The hotel is in a little older building, but is clean and comfortable. The staff was friendly and always cheerful with greetings as we passed. There really is no need for your car unless you're headed to the beach on the opposite side of the island (3-5 miles).

The only drawback we had was our particular room was outdated. After reading some reviews, it seems they are slowly updating the rooms. Had we paid the current rate of $129/night, we may not have been as cheerful about our stay. You come to expect a certain level of stature when staying in a Hilton property, and this one was lacking a bit in that respect. That would be the main and only reason for not giving it a 4-star or higher rating. We would still recommend it and consider another stay, but in an updated room.

The hotel is in a great location - literally just a block (if that!) from shops, restaurants, marinas, etc in historic downtown Fernandina Beach, FL. Hotel has more charm than any other Hampton I've stayed at (which is quite a few as I travel a lot for work). The common areas of the hotel were quaint, with the breakfast area being both the busiest and most well-stocked/monitored I've seen. The pool is on the second floor (it's an outdoor pool) and overlooks the marina (great view - great sunset views!). The rooms were comfortable and clean. This is not a brand new Hampton, so some of the room fixtures seemed to have a bit of age on them - but still very clean, comfortable, and up-to-date. Almost every staff member we saw greeted us, and the few questions we had were thoroughly and quickly answered. Maid service was prompt and thorough. Other reviewers mentioned the train - the hotel is right next to the tracks, but the trains really only ran during the day. I think the earliest one I heard was 8:30-9:00 a.m. They really didn't bother us at all. The beach is a short drive away, with lots of public parking/access areas. I will stay at this hotel again if I'm in the area without hesitation.

Absolutely a wonderful place to stay. You are walking distance to all the dining and shopping. Great staff and clean rooms. Our suite overlooked the inter-coastal waterway - Terrific view every morning! If the beach is your desire its only a short drive away. Bottom line: If you are planning a getaway or vacation to Amelia Island - this is where you need to stay!
