Hampton Inn & Suites Amelia Island-Historic Harbor Front
Ranked #3 of 12 Hotels in Fernandina Beach
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed July 19, 2011

The staff is outstanding and our room was great. This is our 2nd stay. We love the location. It is well situated in the historic downtown section of Amelia Island/Fernandina Beach. We park the car and can walk to all the restaurants and shops. This hotel overlooks the water.

Room Tip: Book early because it is a wedding mecca as well.

My husband and I stayed here over 4th of July weekend during our anniversary. The staff at the front desk were so friendly, there were fresh cookies to munch on (delicious!), and immediately we felt like we were at a B&B, rather than an impersonal hotel. We were able to check in 20 minutes early, and when we arrived at our room, there was a bottle of champagne, glasses, and a card wishing us happy anniversary! We were so touched!

We got the king room with whirlpool. The decor is nice, and the room includes a mini-fridge, coffee pot, fireplace, and microwave. The room was nice, although it's not the most updated hotel room I've ever stayed in. The tub was great, TV was a large flat screen, and we had a view of the pool. The bed was super comfortable! A few of the other reviews mentioned the train nearby, but we were there 2 days and never heard it. The hallways are a bit stuffy, but I think that's because this hotel has many eco-friendly aspects, and one might be to not have the hallway as cool. The temp was fine, but it was a bit stuffy. Also, in the morning it smelled funny both days we were there, and I wonder if that is because it's so close to the pier??? However, who spends time in the hallways? The A/C in the room was wonderful.

The complimentary breakfast in the morning includes fresh waffles, sausage, ham, muffins, English muffins, cereal, oatmeal, juices, bagels, coffee, tea, French toast...lots of options. It wasn't gourmet, but there were definitely a lot of options, and it is a nice extra.

The best part of staying at this hotel is the location. We looked at a lot of options for rooms online, including hotels and B&Bs, and after arriving, we think this hotel has the best location. It is overlooking the marina and is a block from the historic downtown. It was so great to be able to walk around and be back in our room within minutes. Close to shops & restaurants. Plus, we were there on 4th of July weekend, and the fireworks were set off right across the street! We didn't have to deal with parking at all! It is a 3 minute drive from the beach, but there is plenty of parking near the beach. The beach area is much more crowded and loud than where this hotel is. I just can't say enough about the location. The other B&Bs we were looking at - one was right next to a very loud bar w/ live music going all day, and Hoyt House looks beautiful but was on the corner of a busy intersection, which wouldn't be our ideal. Our location felt quiet and tucked away with easy access to everything in the historic downtown.

My family stopped by Fernadina Beach on our way to Jacksonville to go on a cruise. We grabbed a Florida discount hotel book at the rest stop and picked this hotel mainly for price ($89 with coupon) and location. We were pleasantly surprised to find this is a very nice hotel with great service in a cool area.
This was far greater than stopping at a hotel along the interstate.
We may plan to go back and spend a few days here latter.

Stayed here several times over the years mainly on business and it was always a favourite which I recommended to colleagues and friends.
Unfortunately, since new owners took over, it is not the same. The atmosphere is not so friendly and on discovering my room had not been cleaned or the beds made up, the new owner did not even apologize, but made me feel like it was somehow my fault!
Also, installing fires into the bedrooms was probably not their greatest moment. (this is Florida after all) It has made these rooms quite small.
They introduced a 'Managers Reception', which normally means complimentary drinks and snacks. However, not in this case. The beer and wine prices were more expensive than the local bars!
Great location, just a shame the owners are only in it for the profit and not customer satisfaction.

Room Tip: Great location, unfriendly owners.

Thank you for having chosen our Hampton Inn & Suites Amelia Island FL during your recent stay; we appreciate your business. We regret you encountered service mishaps during your stay with us back in February. As always, we will discuss your comments with our staff to ensure we continue to provide service our guests have come to enjoy. Regarding our ownership group, it has been the same since 2002. Also, fireplaces were installed into some suites and some whirpool rooms, which are some of our largest rooms, since the hotel was built back in 2001. Finally, our evening reception is something many of our guests thouroughly enjoy. Although we do charge a fair and competitive price for wine and beer, the appetizers are complimentary. These appetizers are often offered by local restaurants to assist our guest with their dining decisions for that evening. If there is anything we can do for you in the future, please do not hesitate to contact us directly; we'd love to see you again...

Just an overnight stay, but wonderful suite and great location. Historic area and right near waterfront. Room was super sized, very clean, and comfortable. Would stay here again when in the area.

I stayed at the Amelia Island Hampton Inn & Suites while attending a business conference held at the Ritz Carlton in May. Opted for the Hampton so I could stay in the downtown area and to get Hilton points. Typical Hampton Inn -- free breakfast, free internet, reasonable prices and comfortable, but not luxurious accomodations. Area outside of hotel is nice with shops and restaurants within walking distance. Nice view of the water behind the hotel. Only downside to the hotel was the fact that there are train tracks nearby and that the train comes through early in the morning around 5:15 am and the whistle can be quite loud.

Thank you for having stayed at our Hampton Inn & Suites Amelia Island FL; we appreciate your business. We are glad you enjoyed your stay. Having stayed at this hotel many times myself, I completely understand your point of view regarding the train, horn, and their schedule. Although it is not a nightly occurrence, local/state laws require the train operators to briefly honk their loud horn when crossing intersections. We hope to see you again in the future.

The Hampton Inn and Suites in historic Fernandina, Amelia Island is an attractive, comfortable hotel in a great location. The hotel is conveniently in the heart of the historic area on 2nd Street between Center and Ash. Front Street and the bay are at the far end of the hotel.

Train tracks do run between Front Street and the bay, but our view of the bay was worth the possible noise of trains. Sunset on the bay was very pretty. We actually heard the train late (before bedtime) once on our first night. The second night, a train rolled through about 10:15 P.M. and another one around 5:20 A.M. We were glad that nothing disturbed our sleep during the middle of the night.

The hotel staff is exceptional. Everyone we encountered (check in, breakfast, cleaning, and maintenance) was cheerful and seemed happy to be working there. I needed to send a fax while there, and the front desk staff cheerfully and efficiently accommodated me.

The attractive breakfast area is large, and every space was well used for the breakfast buffet and guests seating. The options were plentiful and good. The only thing we didn’t like was the chairs which seemed a little large and cumbersome for the tables and space.

The business center is comfortable and secure – entry is only allowed with a room key card. Both PCs have good connectivity, monitors have great resolution, and each PC has a dedicated printer. I especially liked the fact that both computers are set up so that temporary files are deleted as each guest logs off.

The fitness center has several different pieces of equipment. The treadmill works well. The room has glass walls on 2 sides making the space feel large and open.

Our king room was very attractive and clean as was the bathroom. The below window heat/cooling unit was efficient. The microwave and refrigerator were useful. The bed was very comfortable.

The Hampton Inn and Suites is a great place to stay. I definitely want to return to Amelia Island and to this hotel.
