Residence Inn Amelia Island

Reviewed April 5, 2013

Our first visit to Amelia Island was made even more special because we stayed at the Residence Inn. Friendly and helpful staff, outstanding variety of breakfast foods (including fresh fruits and yogurt if you prefer healthier choices), and clean, beautifully decorated rooms made this a vacation to remember. Our king studio suite was just perfect, especially with a super AAA rate. We loved walking the Egans Creek Greenway which is right out the hotel's back door--be sure to take your camera! And for a special treat after all the walking on the greenway, the beach, and Fort Clinch and Little Talbot state parks, go to nearby DeNucci's Soft Serve for the absolutely best desserts. We loved the hotel's location (about a mile to the beach) and ease of getting to the Historic District and other must-see parts of the island. There's much to love about the Residence Inn, our new #1 favorite hotel!

This is our 3rd time staying at this hotel. We usually get the two room suite as we meet family there for a few days and like to stay together. Unfortunately, we could only get separate rooms as the two room suites were booked. We requested a few times that the rooms be right next to each other or right across the hall. We ended up being on the same floor, but way down the hall from each other. I don't understand why this was a difficult request. The hotel seemed to have more dogs than usual. Don't get me wrong, I do like dogs, but it almost felt like I was staying at an all dog hotel. The room was very dusty and certain parts of the hotel are starting to show it is not a new hotel anymore. The girl that checked us in was an intern and couldn't have been any nicer. The hotel is about a five minute walk to the beach. Next year we all agreed to rent a house or condo on the beach.

Thank you so much for taking the time to review our hotel.

I'm sorry that our two bedroom suites were booked up during your stay and can understand your disappointment. As for being situated closely, we do our best and I'm glad we were able to get you on the same floor. Depending on how full the hotel is (and with April getting into busy season), we are not always able to place guests side by side. The timing may also explain why there may have been more dogs during your stay - we do place our pet guests on the first floor so it may have been busy at that time.

I have passed your notes on to the appropriate managers, and I can tell you that they will be addressed, as we work very hard to maintain our Diamond and Platinum Marriott award statuses. Feedback like yours is helpful and appreciated, and we take it constructively.

I am happy to hear that your experience with our front desk staff was a positive one - she is an absolute sweetheart and I'll pass your compliment along.

I can understand your consideration of a condo rental on the beach for next year, but we would love to have you back if plans change. Thank you for your previous stays and again, for your review. - Casey

We had a wonderful time at the Residence Inn and I will look for this hotel more often. We enjoyed having two rooms for the 6 of us so we could have our private space but still be together. The hotel is super clean and the staff was great, especially the busy breakfast workers who worked so hard during the busy spring break. The hot tub was very enjoyable as well. The only two downsides are the beds are hard and pillows are not good, and the pool was freezing. If we weren't having a cold spell in Florida it may not have been do bad but it would have been great if the pool was heated. I would recommend them to anyone and definitely stay again.

Thank you so much for taking time to review our hotel!

I'm so glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay. Our two-bedroom suites are favorites among travelling friends and families that, like you mentioned, want to be together, but still have room to stretch out.

I have passed on your comments about the beds and pillows and am sure they will be addressed promptly - a good night's sleep is top priority for vacations! I believe we are also currently working on heating the pool - I'll have to keep an eye on that process.

Again, thank you for the review, and we hope to have you again soon!
Safe travels,
Casey

Our suite at the Residence Inn was clean and ready when we arrived - even though we were a couple of hours ahead of the "official" check-in time. The staff at the desk were friendly and helpful, as they were during our entire visit. The décor of the hotel was pleasant. The pool area, workout room, and breakfast area were all kept up pretty well. The "Egan's Creek Greenway," located behind the hotel was a wonderful walking and nature exploring area. So, a lot of positives for this hotel.

Now for the weak points: Guests are allowed to bring their dogs - and they did! I like dogs just fine, but did not like being awakened at 7 AM by one barking in an adjacent suite. The free WiFi was not all that reliable. On our first full day at the hotel we arrived back at a bit after 5 PM to find that Housekeeping had not yet made it to our suite. One of the staff did show up soon thereafter and offered to clean, but we just wanted to relax in the room before going out to dinner. The breakfast bar ran out of coffee one morning, except for decaf - which I don't drink.

Although we purchased a few items (snacks, beverages) from the self-serve "market" next to the desk - and charged them to our room; none of them appeared on our bill. We did bring it to the desk staff's attention when we checked out - and they "comped" us. Which was a nice gesture.

Thank you for taking the time to write so thoroughly about our hotel - we thrive on feedback and appreciate your review.

I'm glad we were able to get you in ahead of check-in time, and that you enjoyed the staff and decor. Egans Creek Greenway is a hit and teeming with wildlife! Definitely one of the staff favorites as far as "amenities" go.

Like most Residence Inns, we are pet-friendly but I can understand your frustration at being woken up by the early riser pup. We try to keep all of our pet guests on the first floor with occasional overflow into the second floor, so if you're here next time and would prefer to avoid being close to rooms that may have pets, ask to have a note put on the reservation that you'd prefer a 3rd, 4th, or 5th floor room, and the front desk agent will do everything he/she can in the morning to meet your request. Depending on the season and availability, I can't guarantee that we'll always be able to do that, but it definitely doesn't hurt to ask and we do our best to meet those requests.

We are getting a much-needed upgrade to our WiFi strength, which we're all glad for and looking forward to, so your future stays should see better connectivity. If not, please let us know and keep us informed the way you did so that we can work to improve.

Again, thank you for the evenhanded review and we hope to have you back soon.

Safe travels,
Casey

This is not our first stay and it definitely will not be our last....our kids love this hotel. When we checked in we were greeted with smiles and a staff who enjoyed being there. We love the manager receptions like the BBQ that was complimentary and then the bake sale that was going on to support ride for life! Thanks Residence Inn for providing excellent service!

So glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay with us!

Those 2-3 evening socials per week are a highlight of ours too! I love those meatballs at the BBQ and we actually just purchased sno cone and popcorn machines! So I bet the kids will love that even more! And thank you for checking out our Relay for Life fundraiser! We are currently over halfway to our goal and excited to be part of a worthy cause.

See you next time and safe travels,
Casey

A wonderful, relatively new property by Marriott. Rooms are stylish in decor with comfortable beds. We had the King Studio Suite which had a small kitchen with refrigerator, dishwasher, stovetop, and microwave. From the first moment at the front desk to checkout, service was friendly and hospitable. Breakfast was substantial with both hot and cold items. Pool and a truly hot jacuzzi were a treat. A first-class, comfortable experience which I highly recommend.

We had a two bedroom two bathroom suite with living room and fully equipped kitchen. Full breakfast and Managers reception Wednesday and Friday evening included hamburgers, hotdogs, meatballs, chips, beer, wine and soda. Enjoyed walking/bike trail directly behind hotel. Swimming pool and hot tub. Outdoor fire pit. Three blocks from the ocean and great restaurant "Sliders". Bike rentals available on site.

I'm so glad to see that you enjoyed your stay!
Those meatballs are my personal favorite! It sounds like you enjoyed Egans Creek Greenway - that is part of the Great Florida Birding Trail and I personally have seen turtles and deer, and others have reported distant alligators, otters, and of course countless types of birds. Sliders is a local staple and I'm glad you enjoyed the other amenities as well.

Come see us again soon and safe travels!
