There is nothing to not like this State Park. You drive into the Park about 2 miles. You go left and you are on Amelia River. You go Right and you are on the Beach. The best of both. And, speaking of both, Camping at both :)

We have driven by this park entrance many times and finally decided to go and check it out over a long weekend. If you go, you must go all the way out and see the fort. Absolutely beautiful setting and amazing history there. A must see if you are in this part of the country!

Ft. Clinch is the real Florida at it's finest. Huge oak trees hung with spanish moss, birds, deer, and other critters. It's quiet and most fun to visit early in the am or late in the afternoon. New fishing pier allows an almost 1/2 walk out into the ocean.
The fort itself is simple but gives one a very good idea of what life was like in those days.

We camped on the river side campground for two nights. Site was easily accessed with our 31 ft motor coach. Was foggy much of the time. The site was black sand that stuck to everything. Biggest drawback was the noise from a mill across the bay. Bath house and restrooms were some of the best we have encountered in ten years of camping. Beach was about two miles from our site, but was accessible by bikes.

If you enter the park on a bike, it's only $2 per person ($6 per car). It's about a 3-4 mile ride back to the fort... all under a canopy of trees. Very nice ride. They also have off-road bike paths as well, and they rent bikes at the fort. We didn't go into the fort but did take a walk on the deserted beach beyond. Very nice, relaxing park.
