Looks great from the outside, tired on the inside, but spacious.
Just got up to get a glass of water from the kitchen to be greeted by a one inch cockroach on the floor - suspect I may not sleep well tonight!!!!

My husband and I stumbled across these villas on a trip to the Everglades and decided to stay overnight. The villas looked quaint from the outside, so we decided to see if there was any availability. Alarm bells should have rung when we went to the reception area! It was scruffy and had junk piled up in the corners. Still, the ladies at reception told us that the villas had recently been refurbished, so we duly paid the 95 dollar rate and was given the key for Villa 4. On entering, it initially appeared that the same interior designer had also designed the 'Bates Motel'. The furniture looked okay in the sitting room, but the bathroom and bedroom was scruffy and dirty. There was a grubby blanket in the wardrobe and the pillows were stained, along with the sheets on the bed. The kitchen was dirty and I had no intention of using any of the crockery. However, the view at the back of the villa was amazing! My husband spent a couple of hours fishing with a couple staying at the next villa and managed to catch some fish. We dreaded having to sleep in the bed. I wrapped several towels (our own) around the pillows and spent most of the night sleeping on top of my husband, so that I did not have to sleep on the mattress! We also spent the night scratching, as we were eaten alive by the mosquitos. However, if you want the best view ever and can cope with dirt, it was a great experience, but one we do not want to repeat. M

What a find! This was exactly what we were looking for---quiet,clean,close to water. The villa was well furnished, the kitchen well stocked.Best of all was the screened in porch where we could have breakfast and watch the sun rays shimmering on the gently flowing water. The canoes were free, very clean and comfortable and we enjoyed an early morning trip to the nearby mangroves--it was heavenly. The elderly couple at the reception were very friendly and told us they frequently see alligators and manatees in the river in winter.
The Gulf Coast visitor center is also nearby, about five minutes by car.
We loved Everglades City, with its quaint small town feel, friendly folk and delicious seafood.

we drove down to everglades city for a nice paddling weekend thinking that we were going to camp out. when we saw the campground immediately knew that we needed to find another place. we come immediately pickEd up, and we were surprised to find a 1 bedroom with kitchen, waiting for us right on the river, for only 115 a night. we got the last room, it is a small place. They had no other vacancy that weekend in this particular hotel. they are very dog friendly and very friendly in general. the canoe for our use were extremely clean and in good . the kitchen was well stocked and there were lots of fish in the river for us to catch. We will definitely return.

After a couple of weks of cookie-cutter chain hotels, this place was a refreshing change! We had a good-size bedroom, spacious living/dining room, and a full kitchen, well furnished with dishes and cooking utensils as well as a full-size refrigerator! Wifi worked fine.

There was also a porch with a great view of the river. It was like having an apartment rather than a hotel room, and we really loved it there. We spent a lot of time on the porch.

Two cautionary notes --nothing against the property, just information.

1) The rooms here are NOT handicapped-accessible; all are upstairs, as the whole complex is up on pilings, as a precaution in case of flooding, I assume.

2) If you intend to do much cooking in the excellent kitchen, shop for food before you get to Everglades City. The one local "supermarket" has very limited choices. It's better than nothing, but not much variety.

This facility is not new, not glitzy, not pretentious. It is spacious, quiet, and very homey. We'd return any time we had a chance!

Never been to Everglades City before and am soooo glad I did!
The motel is perfect. If ONLY the weather had cooperated...the cold front has been at my heels since I left Ga! I'd LOVE to use their canoe to explore...but not happening with 30mph NEasterly.
I have the #2 one bed unit and it's great! The view cannot be beat. It's fun watching the airboats come in at dusk with their hitchiking pelicans on the bows.
My two little dogs love watching the many birds passing by the screened porch...keeps them entertained!
Some men came in from fishing with a huge cooler full of beautiful trout, drum, mangrove snappers, (I was jealous!) and as they cleaned them the pelicans went crazy vying for scraps. They all lined up on the Inn's deck waiting....great pics (except my camera stinks).
Hopefully one day I'll venture back and will definitely stay here! (AND fish & canoe this time!)

this is a old place but very clean, the price was good the staff friendly. not for those who are looking to be entertained. its a island for the fisherman and his family. You can ride bikes and see the whole island in a day. Great history surrounds this place and is well worth the drive.
