“Both boat tours are excellent”

We took both the Ten Thousand Islands boat tour and the Mangrove Wilderness boat tour and both are excellent. The Ten Thousand tour takes you out to the bay where you see dolphins along side the boat, eagles, and many other birds on the islands. The Tour Guide is excellent and it is well worth the price. My wife and I were the only passengers on the 3:30 tour but the tour went anyway. The Mangrove Wilderness tour takes you inland into a very narrow canal with thick mangroves on both sides and over the canal. You see alligators (up close, within 2 or 3 foot of the boat!) and many birds. The Tour Guide is excellent, and explained everything really well. The two tours are very different and I recommend both.

It was a great boat ride. We went out to the Gulf and saw the mangroves. We saw dolphins and lots of birds. The guides and captain were very good. A great way to experience the park. Would do it again.

This tour runs from the Everglades National Park HQ in Everglades City. The boat takes visitors out through a channel to the edge of the Gulf and if you are lucky, you will see all manner of birds, dolphins and manatees. The best time is the sunset tour on a good day. It's well worth the price and the guides are usually very knowledgeable about the area and the natural history of that part of Florida. There are many good captains, but we remember Captain Marty as having a real sense of humor and a lot of information.

This is not an air boat tour. Air boat tours are not allowed within the national park. This was a small, single engine boat. We made the reservations online more than week before the tour day. We wanted to do the first tour of the day so went for the 9.00am tour.

When we got there, we found only we had booked the 9.00am tour. We were worried whether they would wait till the boat fills up. But they didn't. Our boat Captain Marty started the tour on time. So we two ended up enjoying a private tour for ordinary price.

Captain Marty explained us a lot about the areas' history, park's history. There were lots of birds of different kinds and Captain Marty helped us identifying them. We learned a lot about those birds from him. The best part of the tour was the stretch he took us through a dense mangrove forest. The path was barely wide enough for a small boat and the mangrove canopy was right above our heads. We saw a few alligators and lots of birds there. On our way back, we slowed down to look at the shell mounds built by native Americans. We saw a couple of dolphins swimming near out boat.

The water is brackish and not clear. The chance of seeing anything under water is slim though the depth is 4 feet on average. The boats cannot get too close to the islands because of the shallow depths. Taking a binoculars with you is a good idea so that you can enjoy up close vies of the birds.

The tour lasted 1.45 hours and we enjoyed the every bit of it. This is not the kind of tour for thrill seekers. But if you like birds, nature this is ideal.

We did this one week before the so called season begins hence we didn't experience any booking conflicts. However, during peak times there can be double booking situations. Call them couple of days before the tour or allow a few extra hours in your schedule if you plan to do this during peak times.

We took the mangrove tour in mid-November, and our captain was Marty. He was very knowledgeable about the birds, the mangroves, and any other question we asked him about the surroundings. The booking for the tour went flawless, and it was only the two of us for the morning tour, so it felt very private. We saw a lot of birds, a few alligators in the mangroves, two dolphins near the boat, and the islands that were constructed with shells. I learned a lot during this trip, and the scenery was breathtaking. It was chilly, so I am glad we wore jackets. Everything went so perfectly for us, we would do it again.
