Owner description: Tour The Glades is the Only exclusively Private tour operator in the Everglades! Quality instead of quantity is our goal...which means our guests receive 100% of our attention. We can only do one (maybe two) trips per day which makes each one very special. This approach is better for the environment and hands down the best way to explore the Everglades....just you and your own personal guide. We provide tours year round and all excursions are led by Native Naturalist Guides that provide EVERYTHING you'll need. Fresh seasonal fruit, cold bottled water and all the necessities are included. You won't need to purchase any additional items because we've thought of everything! We are priced the same as the group tour companies but only do Private Tours because Private is Best. You are our #1 priority.

We took a private family kayak tour with Tod over the New Year's holiday (January 2014) and couldn't have had a better experience. The trip was fantastic for the whole family (mom, dad, two daughters ages 7 and 9). Tod knows the area like the back of his hand, could answer all of our questions about the local widllife and plants, and was able to help us get great views of heron, ibis, egret, osprey, alligator (from a safe distance!), among others. He was completely prepared. While the experience is what I would consider a true wilderness one, we always felt completely safe and in good hands. If you are looking for a safe, affordable, and authentic everglades experience, book it with Tod without hesitation.

Our family of 4 (2 teen-age sons) all loved our kayak tour of the ponds and mangrove tunnels in the Everglades City region. Tod took us to off-the-beaten-path locations, so we saw only one canoe in our 3 1/2 hour tour. We truly felt we were in a wilderness. We feel we understand and appreciate that region of The Glades much better now. We learned how close we could get to alligators without spooking them, and enjoy them as the gentle creatures they really are.
Tod is a one man crew, so he is not subject to strict time schedules or constricted by company rules. He is a great guy, and we strongly recommend you book him if he is available.

If you decide to do a tour in this area you have to book it with Tod! Amazing, amazing, amazing! I always research anything I am going to do and I was not disappointed in going with Tour the Glades. Seriously other than helicoptering in onto a glacier and hiking it in Alaska this was the best excursion I have ever taken! First off it's just you and him on the tour. He is so patient, if you are a newby like my husband and I were you will really appreciate that. We had never kayaked before and I was worried about being tired out during the tour but it was a piece of cake to do. The water is calm as can be, like a beautiful sheet of glass. You just glide through it. We could have went on for another 3 hrs no problem!

I called Tod to book the tour and he took care of everything right away. He even emailed me some recommendations for hotel and restaurants and they were great! His fee is a great deal and comparable to other tours that would have had way more people on the tour with you. Why would you book with anyone else when you can have the tour guide all to yourselves! I can't imagine going on a tour with so many other strangers and having to worry about bumping into them or playing the waiting game for others in the group to catch up??? We toyed with the idea of doing an airboat tour or this and we definitely chose the best way to see gators and wildlife. This was so relaxing and informative and you aren't scaring all the wildlife away with a noisy boat. We ate lunch at a place on the river before our tour and an airboat passed by. It was so loud! Makes you wonder if they see anything on their tour at all! And they just can't get to the places you can go in a kayak. We were so thankful we went with this kayak tour. We had the whole mangroves to ourselves! Was like being in Paradise. The airboats just don't compare!

Tod lives and breathes doing this and gets you so excited about all the different wildlife you see and we saw a ton! It was so cool to see so many gators right up close. Twice we had ones go under our boat and it wasn't even scary. They really are shy and once they see you they just paddle off or submerge. One came up right off the side of our kayak and it was so close we could have reached out and touched it. But it saw us and just submerged again until we paddled off. It was so amazing! They are not aggressive and so beautiful to watch. There were so many different types of birds to see as well, some crazy waterbugs that sound like rice crispies popping when you paddle by them and flying fish (mullets I think) We kept waiting for one to jump into the boat they were so close! Our tour was packed with wildlife! (We took the sunset tour)

Tod is so good about taking care of you too. He had a waterproof box for each kayak to hold our cameras/wallets etc. He also had bugspray if we needed it. And half way through the tour we stopped and had a snack of oranges and chocolate that he packed for us, such a thoughtful touch! He took pictures for us with our cameras too. Such a nice guy! We loved our time with him so much we felt like we made a new friend!

All you need to bring is a hat and sunglasses if you think you need them (my husband had polarized glasses and he saw so much right below the surface of the water) and a camera is a must. You don't get wet at all (unless you are really crazy with your paddle) Tod loads you in on the shore and pushes you off and when coming back he jumps out and pulls your kayak onto the shore. We wore shorts and flipflops The kayaks are super stable too, I don't think we could have capsized it if we tried. You cannot go wrong if you chose Tod! We are already talking about going on another tour next time we are in Florida. Thank you Tod for the best experience!!!!

We booked this tour after a cruise from Miami. Drove straight out to the Tourist Center to meet up with Tod. We arrived early for our 2pm meet time. Four of us (2 couples) followed him to the kayak launch point just a little way up the road. Tod puts you in the kayak and sends you off - we did tandems. The 3.5 hours went by so fast. If you are worried at all that this will be exerting - don't! It's nothing at all. Could have easily done another tour back to back. It's a slow tour through the mangroves and you will see some amazing animals. We saw gators, egrets, blue heron, kingfishers, beetles, mullets jumping up out of the water over and over, and even a turtle. It was a pretty awesome view with the water acting as a mirror over the mangroves - it looked like a whole other world beneath us - something surreal. You just wanted to stop and drink it all in. And the water is very shallow - only about 2 feet deep in some areas. When we started getting bit, Tod had bug spray for us. We stopped and he fed us oranges and chocolate and had water - if you needed it.
At one point my husband spotted something lying beneath the water on the canal floor. Curious, we went back to get it and pulled up a hat! When we caught up to Tod - showed him what we had found. Guess what? It was HIS hat! He said he had lost it a few weeks back and had been looking all over for it. So that was pretty cool! We forgot to get a picture though! (so Tod - if you are reading this - you need to send or post a pic of yourself with the lost hat!) We rode with it laying on the back of our kayak the whole trip - I'll post a pic if I can find a good one. Anyway, we definitely thought this tour was the highlight of our trip and will definitely book another with Tod when we get back to this area.

We were lucky to have Tod as our guide to hidden treasures of Everglades by kayaking. We started few hours before the sunset & ended up right with the sunset. Everything was amazing - Tod himself having a passion for Everglades & the ability to share his passion; the Everglades & its habitants; unity with your party learning how to manage the kayak. Definately among the best memories of the Year.
