“Shurr Adventures an Indispensable for out of the world Kayak experience thru the thick mangroves”
Reviewed November 18, 2010

I have never seen or done anything wonderful in my life, compared to Kayaking thru the mangroves for 3 wholesome hrs in a guided tour, egged on & guided wonderfully by Justin. Justin is a man who acts for making the tourist have an enthralling experience more than making money. This was one of a personalised tour and i met a wonderful person in Justin who was more than willing to accomodate the needs of his clients. SO what do you get to do in this? You will get to kayak for 3hrs(thats what we did) in Everglades national park in the midst of Mangroves filled with its intense beauty accomodated by its original inhabitants. Do we need to know Kayaking? Definitely not, I and my buddy had no inkling of kayaking, and here i meet justin who promised us a gr8 experience with an end result of making us kayak friendly; I am not sure whether we turned pro but his guiding was so impeccable that we were super comfortable in our kayaks by the end and had an exhilirating experience. Do you need to know biology and Geography? No, Justin was so knowledgeable about the flora and fauna and shared his knowledge with us with a childlike enthusiasm and sincerety. Will you have a wonderful experience without knowing to kayak? Absolutely yes, Justin was never overcontrolling nor lax in guiding- he allowed us to manouver and learn the tricks @ the same time was watchful like a leapord when need be; overall he ensured us a safe, happy & out of the world experience. Do we need to have our own Kayaks? Definitely not, Justin provides his kayak, all you need to make sure is go empty handed in kayak @ the start and return with ur heart filled with happiness. If one thing needs to be done in Florida-let Kayaking thru the mangroves in everglades be that and if one tour needs to be shortlisted, let shurr adventures be that one.

“2 Awesome Trips!”
Reviewed November 15, 2010

We initially wanted to go on a long overnight trip, but decided to do a couple smaller ones to get more variety. First we Kayaked the river and saw a TON of wildlife. About 30 seconds in, we saw a large alligator. We passed by about 10 more. It was exciting, but not too frightening as they were pretty inactive. We also saw some cool birds, a turtle, and a snake. We went though some tight mangrove tunnel that were great for pictures. I had a lot of questions for Justin and he was very knowledgeable. Later we went on a Sunset trip out in the Bay. We wandered through the Mangrove Islands and watched a great sunset! Finally we watched an island where all of the birds go at sunset to be at an isolated place. I had no clue that a place like this existed, and it was beautiful! Alli and Justin did a great job and make it a personal experience. We were definitely in good hands.

“Sunset Kayaking”
Reviewed November 14, 2010

My husband and I went on a sunset trip in Chokoloskee. The sunsets are amazing and it was great to relax on the water. Our favorite part of the sunset trip was going to Bird Island. Birds flock here at dusk and was great to see all types of birds fly by us to this island. We learned a lot about the plants and animals in the Everglades. You will want to bring your camera (they have bags to keep them dry). The trip was a couple of hours.

“This is a must for anyone going to the Everglades!”
Reviewed April 17, 2010

My husband, 10 year old grandson and I were recently in the everglades and signed on to Shurr Adventures for an all day kayaking trip through both cypress and mangrove swamps, as well as estuaries. The cypress swamp, more like a cypress cathedral ,is imprinted in my mind forever.
Our guide, Ali ,was very knowledgable about the area and we felt very safe despite seeing several alligators along the way. it was the highlight of the trip for me. It is worth the cost a then some.

“Personal service in the Everglades!”
Reviewed March 13, 2010

We did a combo trip with Alli and Justin - a morning trip from 9 to 11:30am, and the sunset trip at 4:45 to 7:30pm. They picked us up at our motel for the first trip, and we followed them in our car to Turner River in Big Cypress National Preserve. Alli guided the first kayak tour, with four others included. For the second trip, we met Alli and Justin on Chokoloskee Island and did the sunset tour in the waters around the Ten Thousand Islands. The environments of the two tours were very different; Turner River was much more enclosed, while the Ten Thousand Islands were much more open. You don't need to be athletic for the trips, but we wouldn't recommend the tours for someone grossly out of shape. Overall, the paddling was worth it for intimate tours of the area.

Justin and Alli were both great guides, very patient and very knowledgeable. They're a great married couple, with backgrounds in the natural sciences and photography. Besides the actual tour, they were wonderfully accommodating. After both trips they gladly recommended restaurants in town for meals, provided a bottle of water for each kayaker, and offered granola bars and fruit for everyone during the trip. Justin even called us in the evening after our sunset tour to let us know if Shark Valley (a local bike path / bike rental area) was open, since we didn't have internet at our motel.

The trips were well worth the price, but individually felt a little short. We definitely recommend doing multi day or a single day combo trip to get the most out of the trip. One two and a half hour tour is over-priced for the limited time you get. We recommend Shurr Adventures for people looking for more of an eco-tourist experience from a different perspective. You won't see much more than if you spent hours on the boardwalks, but the personal service and perspective from the water make Shurr Adventures a good buy.
