“Lock & Key - Traditionally Average”
Reviewed May 28, 2014

We have been to this establishment twice in the 7 years we've lived in this area. We found the food to be average and at times sub par. This place is always packed, noisy, terrible service. The views are ok. The coconut pie is the worst I've ever had - the crust was like trying to chew cardboard. I think when the Lock & Key was first established with the original ownership it was an excellent place but has gone downhill tremendously. Personally we prefer the restaurant next door on stilts: much better food for the price and the views are amazing!

“A Tradition for Many Visitors”
Reviewed May 21, 2014

We have eaten at the Lock & Key for the past 10 years and have reviewed this establishment before. It is always busy and lots of locals eat here and the food has been good. Tonight we had the gumbo, which in the past has been a reason to visit in and of itself. tonight it seems to be chicken gumbo. Very thick with lots of meat, but the flavor has been lost, none of its standard taste and flavor. No okra or other key ingredient's of good gumbo.
I had the Ribs, a 'signature' dish, tender but the sauce was not that great. My wife had Groper, thin and skimpy on the amount. We would suggest going for the groper sandwich instead of the $23 special dish. Service was not great, and they could use a couple more wait staff.
Atmosphere is good and near a' beach bar' feel but misses the mark.
We are not sure why we have been disappointed but we were. Maybe it was the other reviews that had our hopes up. If you are staying on the beach, it is convenient and walking distance from many condo's. Hope things improve. It is good but not above average in any way.

“average food”
Reviewed May 21, 2014

a little pricey for what you get. But I go there everytime I'm in the area. A nice place to meet friends. If you don't smoke stay away from the front door.

“Great atmosphere!!!”
Reviewed May 19, 2014

Great atmosphere and music---we went on a Sunday evening and had a good time. Shrimp Belvedire appetizer was very tasty!! Salmon salad was large and very good!! Neighboring table had the king cut prime rib and it looked tasty and juicy!!!!!
The only thing I would change would be the smoking arrangements--they allow you to pretty much smoke under roof which has the side walls open if it is a nice evening. When we were there it was a very nice evening and the walls were open but ppl smoked near the center of the open area which caused me to have to breath the smoke. (Cough, choke!)

“Lock in on this one!”
Reviewed May 19, 2014

We just bought a villa just around the corner from this restaurant and walked to eat there. The food was fantastic and the karma equaled it. I strongly recommend the open faced prime rib dinner. I had it blackened and the seasoning was superb. My wife had the coconut chicken that was fabulous as well. We will eat here often during our stays on Manasota Key.
