Our family takes a vacation every year and we just love staying at Englewood Lighthouse. There's not too many places that offer everything you could ask for in one place, you have a pool, your right on the water and close to town. And did I mention - the owners are great!! I would recommend this place to all my friends and family.

Quiet and quaint. True Old Florida style. Room was clean and well equipped with all the necessities. We really enjoyed our stay. Only negative observation was that the property could have been a bit better maintained. Would stay again and appreciate that they have pet friendly cottages available.

I had to write this @Queenbeetnick with her review below in Dec 2012. This place we have stayed at before.[2004] Lisa and Larry were great..they bent over backwards for us. Lisa knew I had a problem with excema, so she put in a dishwasher for my damaged hands.
I suggested they get rid of the full size beds and put in Queen. They did! At that time there was a phone, our daughter was expecting our first grandchild any day. Larry and Lisa put in an answering machine for us if we missed the "call". There was good library of DVD's, yes the pool was not heated, but who cares? Anything is better than walking around up north in the snow. We used it..
We now own property in Placida, Fl about 10 miles form Larry and Lisa. They still remember us and are wonderful owners and great people. Ignore Queenbeetick...we too are Canadians and I hope her review does not reflect upon us as a whole. I think she has issues. Keep up the great job Lisa and Larry.

Room Tip: I put the date as may 2013 because it did not have 2004....my original review is down below

The owner was friendly. There is a wharf on the property right on Lemon Bay. We stayed in cottage #1. It is a little rustic, and a bit dusty, but we are ok with that. But...there was a very strong overwhelming odor in the place that wouldn't quit. We couldn't figure out if it was wet dog smell or cigarette or both. But we were relieved to leave after one night...the odor was bad. Very bad.

We made an exception for this guest and allowed them to stay one night. We have a two-night minimum and try not to go after the motel traffic. For starters, this guest kind of had a chip on her shoulder from the get-go. When she first pulled up and caught me on property in the middle of a task, she didn’t like the fact that I remembered their booking as the one-nighters. She got a little sassy and said they preferred to go by “Jane and John” instead (names changed). She was a bit miffed that I didn’t know their names from memory. Keep in mind this is on one of the busiest days of the year for us, March 1. So it wasn’t a good first impression for either of us for sure.

As I was bopping around the resort later that day, I saw and spoke to these guests while they were walking around near the bay. They didn’t mention anything about any smells in the cottage so I just assumed they were doing alright. It wasn’t until after they left that I learned of their complaint. There is no smoking in our cottages. Our previous guest in that cottage did show up with two very large dogs and they were there a month. At that checkout, the unit was totally cleaned and all the bedding was, of course, washed top to bottom. So the complaint probably originated as a result of the dogs. Depending on the checkout, we sometimes only have five hours to get a cottage turned around for the next check-in. Resident pets that are with us for a month are sometimes hard to completely erase in a five hour window. We do our best to do that acceptably by thorough cleaning and the use of an ionizing air-cleaner.
As a result of this complaint, we have changed our pet policy size limit to be 25lbs or less. Initially, we wanted to run a no pet resort. But over time, we encountered many guests who escape to Florida for the winter with their pets. So we are in a balancing act in trying to accommodate pet guests with non-pet guests. That’s why we designate certain cottages for pets and no pets.
Had this guest made us aware of their complaint while they were here, we certainly could have, and would have solved it. Whether it was new bedding, or whatever, we only wish we had a chance. It is a very tough business to run when we are not given the chance to resolve issues. We only ask our future guests to please let us know of any concerns so we may address them as opposed to going to the internet to complain.

We found the Lighthouse Resort by accident and so glad we did! Larry and Lisa were very accommodating and the cabins are so nice, clean and have everything you would want or need. We will see you again next year :)

Our family just returned from another great trip to Florida. For the past several years we have stayed at the Englewood Lighthouse Resort and we are always very pleased. Larry & Lisa are friendly and always willing to help with anything we need. The facility consists of cottages that sit on Lemon Bay. The cottages are older, but are extremely clean and have all the comforts of home. There is a little pier perfect for fishing and manatee, dolphin, and sunset watching. My 13 year old son enjoys watching the crabs and other sea life in the bay when the tide is low. Manatee often feed right around the pier; this year we saw a mama and her baby, which was very exciting. Although the bay isn't really swim-worthy, public beaches are just a short drive away. There is a clubhouse where guests can pick up board games, books, and puzzles to pass time on rainy days. Free wifi is available. Laundry facilities are on site. The resort is near many restaurants and shopping. We love it here!
