Sometimes its good to leave the life of luxury and connect with the locals. Going to the Dog Races was that kind of experience for my high-school kids. My extroverted son wore his "dog race" clothes, tried betting on a few races, and lost anyway. Great life lesson for the kids! Studying and "book learn'n" is more reliable than placing bets. There really wasn't much food there, only hot dogs at the snack bar. I'll eat almost anything except hot dogs. So I carried around a diet drink. There was some beer and I think my hubby might have gotten one. Our drive out there was a little adventurous, and we took a wrong turn and ended up on a narrow dirt road at night, which was a little exciting, but soon enough we saw the lights of the races.

We go to Panama City Beach once or twice a year, and it is hard to find new and exciting things to do. Going to the Greyhound Park in Ebro is definitely an unusual activity. We have never been into gambling or dog racing, but on the advice of good friends, we went to this park situated 19 miles north of Panama City Beach. We had a wonderful time and can recommend this establishment to those folks who do not want to do the same touristy things over and over again. The admission was only $2 per person, and the races lasted from 6:30 until 9 PM. We went at 6 PM on a Saturday night and had a wonderful prime rib buffet which was very reasonably priced. Much to our surprise, the whole family actually enjoyed the dog racing. We won $90 and spent 60. Even without winning anything, the entertainment value, even for our three children, was great. The only downside to this establishment is that there were not enough waiters and the service was a bit slow at times. The building and especially the carpets are a bit worn and old. Nevertheless, if you want some inexpensive family entertainment that is off the beaten track, give this unusual place a try.

It's a fun activity while on vacation. Tuesday is family night with free admission and $1 hot dogs and soda. You don't have to gamble we let the kids pick which dog the thought would win and it was fun for everyone.

If you are visiting and need that card game rush, Ebro is where the action is.
It is a greyhound race track, with an upstairs poker room. They have daily play at 9 am and all night on weekends. The staff were good at their jobs and friendly.
Expect to pay for any beverage other than a small cup of water.
Parking was ok, but very little for handicap. Also, the entry has very steep stairs. There must be an elevator, but i didn't see it. If you cant climb stairs, call ahead to get options.
They have some table games, live Texas Hold'em, and tournament poker.
There is a restaurant upstair and a snack bar on the lower level.
Live poker games range from $1-2 and up, no limit.

My friends, wife and I took a ride to Ebro Dog Track in Ebro, Florida to spend a few hours watching and betting on the dog races using simulcast betting. The simulcast had betting for both dog and horse racing and jai alai. The park itself has live dog racing from May through September. There was no $2 entry fee because it was matinee racing. The park itself is old and needs renovation which is probably not going to happen because of the small crowds going there. Anyway, we had lunch there and it was very good. The only waitress that was there was very nice and friendly. She went out of her way to make us comfortable and have a good time.
Ebro is located about an hour drive from Destin. It's easy to get to.
For a quick fun afternoon or evening, I recommend this place
