Rainbow river is spring-fed and therefore virtually crystal-clear. The K.P. Hole State Park (US$5 entrance) is very attractive and extremely well maintained. There are lockers (US$2 with US$5 refundable deposit), snacks, toilets, and usually boats that take you upriver for a leisurely snorkel or dive back. We had Captain Brit take us up the river (US$10 each), then did a wonderful 2-hour draft dive back to K.P. Hole. The river is anywhere from 3-25 feet deep, so air lasts a long, long time. Underwater you can drift through sea grass, see little springs gurgling up through the sand, investigate small caverns, watch mullets and sunfish and small turtles. Gorgeous.

The State Park at head springs offers nice snorkling and deep water swimming. They are open all year. They also have activities during the year, like they bring in Santa in December for a weekend Take a water noodle when you go to float on. You can also canoe the river for a small price. No tubers at headsprings. However, at the KP hole down the river they rent canoes and Tubes for the river and they bring you back so you don't have to paddle up stream. Be ready for a float it is 3hrs long to the bridge where they pick you up. You have to be on the river before 1pm. We go every year.

Talked to John and he told us everything we needed to know on this trip. I had been whitewater rafting before but have never been in a kayak. This was an easy 1 1/2 hour trip ( we paddled most of the way ) and took off from KP Hole park. Next trip we will check out Rainbow Springs State Park which is a 1/2 hour north of KP Hole park. Very relaxing and a very easy paddle. On this part of the river, there are only a few places to stop ( mostly private property ) Looking forward to our next trip with AWA Had a great time.

A perfect summer spot for divers, snorkelers, boaters, tubers, and kayakers. Always a favorite comfort spot for my local friends and family. Can't wait to come back!

You can take a boat upriver, jump off, and float back down. I was with a group of scuba divers. You can see lots of species of fish and cormorants swimming by. It is relaxing and pretty. It would probably be better to snorkel the river because the maximum depth is slightly over 20 feet. During the summer, the KP Hole entrance can be very, very crowded--get there before it opens and wait in line. The rest of the year you don't have to worry about the crowds.
