It was our first time there and it was very easy to maneuver in and out. Friendly staff, no questions asked... Read the web site and it gives you all you need. I do suggest getting there no later than 9 to avoid the rush on the weekends!

We enjoyed tubing on the Rainbow River today. It was a lot of fun but lots to know. First, you must have all of your food in containers (not disposable) such as water bottles and Tupperware. Also, it's a 4 hour tour. therefore, if was a little challenging with kids. they did great for 3 hours (ours are 5-10 yrs old) but after that, they wanted to get off. If you can, bring a float with a cooler. we had lots of snacks and each person had their own waterbottle - that worked out great. We also brought a bunch of sunscreen (reapplied) and rope to tie the floats together. We had a great day but it would have been perfect with a 2-3 hour tour. there are others (rainbow springs?) that offer shorter tours for kids.

K.P. Hole County Park is a great launch point for exploring the Rainbow River.
What a beautiful stretch of crystal blue water. We rented kayaks from the concession at the Park. The boat staff were well organized, professional and helpful.
Our goal was to paddle upriver to Rainbow Springs State Park and then float back to K. P. Hole. It was a few miles of relatively easy paddling to reach Rainbow Springs, and took us about an hour and a half or so. En route we saw all kinds of cool wildlife. Storks, herons and anhinga birds in trees, turtles sunning themselves on rocks. (No gators, though there were warning signs for them at the state park.) There were many areas where bubbling springs could be spotted. Lots of snorklers.
K.P.Hole County Park is a great beginning to an exploration of this beautiful spring-fed river. There was a swimming area at the park, for those wanting to explore the water without a boat.
Note: pets are not allowed at K.P. Hole, though they will allow you to walk with a dog (on leash) along the path at the far end to access the boat launch area, if you're renting boats. Our small dog came with and enjoyed the trip (though not as much as we did, I'm sure).

The section of the Rainbow River north of the county park is worth exploring. There is a $5 fee to launch from this park, but it is worth it. The workers at the park are very helpful and will answer all your questions willingly (Ph. 352-489-3055). Bring a pair of goggles to explore under water. The sights are impressive. From the park you can travel up to Devil's elbow and see the under water caves--which is an easy 15 minute paddle. You can go further up to the area referred to as the blue shallows, which is also fun to snorkel. The water is chilly, so you may want a wet suit if you are going to be in the water for a long period of time. They sell pre-made sandwiches, which are basic but hit the spot after snorkeling in the cold water for any length of time.
