The check in took awhile, I think they could use some more stations. The self-parking areas were small and over crowded.
The room was outstanding and we enjoyed the tranquility pool area. I would suggest adding a swim up bar at that pool. The service was good, but a bar at the pool would be great.
We noted that the maid service ran late in the day, but that was not an issue for us as we spent little time in the room. The staff I interacted with was very friendly and efficient.
I got a great deal on hotels.com. The view was not the best, but I was not complaining for the price.
We would highly recommend Hawks Cay.

I stayed here with my best friend, her 7 year old, and my 2 year old. We had a fantastic time. The front desk was helpful to accommodate our requests of a ground floor room with 2 queen beds. The room was quiet, cool, and had a safe balcony that looked out upon the well manicured grounds. We had a small refrigerator, HUGE bathroom and shower and plenty of room for all of our stuff. We spent all 3 days out by the salt water lagoon. The water in the lagoon felt fresh and not 'funky' at all. We hired a babysitter, "Rosie" from the kids club..she was awesome and the kids felt very comfortable with her. Dinner at Alma was fantastic. Dinner at the tiki shack with the kids was beautiful under the big sea grape tree...the kids could run around.
From the moment we arrived to the time we left Hawks Cay Resort we felt relaxed and welcome and well taken care of. Can't wait to go back!

Rented a 2-bedroom town-home for a family of 5. (Unit 7008) Sign on refrigerator states they give each property a detailed quality inspection - FAR FROM True for our Unit.

Pros: Overall grounds is quiet and quaint. Marina is a short walk away from the property, providing scuba, snorkeling, etc.; multiple pools on resort property; 2 fire-pits to enjoy free of cost; the natural lagoon is what we found to be the highlight of the resort whether for adults or kids; pools stay open late, which the kids loved night-swimming; Starbucks on property. Pool / Outdoor staff were great. Unit cable TV equipped to rent movies at night, great for families. Front doorman, Pool greeter and man who drives electric cart were exceptionally friendly. There is an adult-only pool on the property.

Cons: Arrived to a town home that lacked attention (Unit 7008). Refrigerator handle was broken; We noticed after several hours after arriving, the refrigerator would not cool our food - called the front desk and as you would expect, they did not have maintenance available until the following day - we stored most of our food in the freezer, which was unavailable to eat until the following late afternoon. Dishwasher did not run when we tried to use it twice (hand-washed instead); while you do expect rentals to show scuff-marks and such from renters, bathroom walls had stuff on walls that appeared could be wiped off if the property cared a little more (a bit gross); many foreign staff lacked the ability to understand English (lack of training); Starbucks staff had attitudes every day (a little annoying when they are the first staff you interact with each morning); Could not run bathroom fan because the noise it made was overly loud; air-conditioning unit caused the entire town home to shake when running. Gathering space (living room/kitchen - open floor plan) was not relaxing at night for a family of 5 with only 1 couch and 1 chair; Pullout couch mattress is about past it's expiration date.

Maintenance came the day after we arrived to fix the refrigerator; We left at 10 a.m., the time he was supposed to arrive. We stayed out the entire day, coming back to the town home at 8 p.m. to find Maintenance had left our door wide open. Thankfully, nothing was stolen. We called the front deck to notify them. The woman who answered skirted around our complaint (ie. laptops being inside with a door left open), and she said she could not understand me, and hung up. Hopefully this will notify management that some staff possibly don't belong in the service industry.

I am giving this review 4 stars ONLY because of the property, pools & activities for kids. Possibly our unit was the worst of the worst and hopefully management will take this review and give the unit interiors as much attention as they do with landscaping.

Room Tip: Our unit had a closed-in patio, which we did not use. Possibly great for those with small kids. Ther...

We spent five days at Hawks Cay in June. We stayed in the Sanctuary Villas which were wonderful! 3 bdrms, 2.5 bth, private pool, kitchen, dining/living area and our own covered parking spot. The hotel does provide pots/pans/glasses, paper products, sponges, detergent, shampoo, soap, lotion, etc... but not coffee filters. We did the Dolphin experience, which was lots of fun! The lagoon pool was very nice. We had no trouble getting lounge chairs or food service. Took a sunset cruise, which was fun as well. The resort had beautiful views and it was fun just to walk around and see everything. We did get to see a manatee near the Harbor Villas. We enjoyed driving up and down the keys and went off-site to Robbies (north several miles) to kayak through mangroves and Anne's Beach to walk way out into the ocean. Lot's to do in the area.

Room Tip: Sanctuary Villas do not have water views, but are spacious, well-appointed, private and very roomy...

Stayed June 19 - 22. Was a mix of business and pleasure for my wife and I tagged along for the pleasure part.

Property:
Located on Duck Key, the property is attached to a fairly exclusive residential community on the island. Marathon key is a few minutes to the south and it appears to attract as a quick getaway for residents in the Miami area as well as small conferences. The hotel has a nice layout that includes an enclosed “lagoon” swimming area in addition to a main and adult pools. Two main restaurants are on property. There are two outside bars and a main bar just off the lobby area. A good portion of the resort is dedicated to fishing/boating guests with docking facilities available. Weddings appear to be frequently booked so expect some areas to be reserved accordingly. A unique feature is the dolphin pool that hosts 4 dolphins available for guest interaction programs. Boat/fishing trips, diving, para-sailing, etc. can be arranged through at the main lobby or through the main desk.

Our Room:
We spent 3 nights in one of the main building rooms - a king bed overlooking the adult pool. The balcony view was wonderful as we could enjoy coffee with a view of the ocean through the trees. The room was very clean with an over sized bathroom and large walk-in shower. A k-cup coffee maker, fridge and safe were in the room. The TV reception was not that great with a poor picture on most channels. The $29 resort fee includes wi-fi and the internet connection we experienced was OK.

Parking:
Valet parking is included as part of the resort fee. There are additional areas for those with boat trailers. We found the valet staff to be very attentive and professional.

Restaurants/Bars:
As mentioned, there are two main dining locations – one that features a buffet area and the other with traditional seating. There is a grill type service that handles bar food around the pool area. Drinks and food can be ordered poolside. There is a small Starbucks operating out of the lobby gift shop. If staying for more than a few days, the limited dining options may get old. Food was very good and we ate from the bar menu and enjoyed the breakfast buffet

The downsides:

- We booked a sunset boat cruise that had to be cancelled due to weather. We were told our reservation would be moved to the next evening. The next day we happened to stop by the main lobby desk to confirm and was told that our reservation had been cancelled because of a group booking for the boat. When asked when they were planning to inform us of the cancellation the "reply" was pretty much just a blank stare. Bottom line was that if we hadn't stopped by the desk to check, we would not have known of the cancellation until we showed up at the dock.

- For a resort, the beer selection was pretty limited. The bar staff did not appear to know the difference between an ale or a lager. A bit disappointing considering the clientele this resort is attempting to target. I admit to being a "beer snob" but do think bartenders should at least know the basics of what they are serving.

- We observed a family with a toddler in the adult pool. The area is clearly marked that only guests over 21 are permitted in the area. Several hotel staff simply walked right by, taking no action.

- While we sat on our balcony for early morning coffee we watched other guests placing towels on chairs around the pool early in the morning to reserve them and simply walking away to return later in the day - similar to the chair hogs found on cruise ships. One couple did this to a group of 7 chairs.

- Trash was visible under bushes around the lagoon area. Looks like it had been there for a few days.

- On checkout, front desk staff did not ask how our stay was – simply if there were any problems with the bill. Can only assume management is not interested in any guest feedback.

Summary: Rooms are nice and property is maintained. Interesting features such as a lagoon pool and dolphin pool. Service tended to be a bit lacking at times. With an off-season rate in the mid $200 along with a $29 “resort fee” there are better values. We would probably stay again for a few days but any longer period we would want something closer to Key Largo or Key West with more nightlife and dining options.

Room Tip: If possible, south facing rooms overlooking adult pool area. These are considered "island view...
