We just came back from Hawks Cay. We were there for 8 nights. Kids are age 8-14 years old. They all loved it. There was always something to do. My 8 year old son wanted to go to the Indies Club every morning as soon as he woke up. We stayed in a one floor Marina Villa; they gave us a free room upgrade. The bathrooms could be redone - they looked dirty and old. When we got there, hair was on the floor. The kitchen was really nice - looked new. We had a corner balcony with a hammock. Utensils in the kitchen were scarce and one of our TV's wasn't working. Anytime we needed anything, it was taken care of immediately. We spent some time at Bahia Honda and it was amazing. It is so beautiful. We also went to Key West - which is an hour and a half away. Sparky's Landing was a really good place to eat. The noise from the road was a bit loud late at night and in the early morning with trucks going by; construction on a bridge nearby. Kids loved the lagoon and pools. We rented kayaks and paddleboards a few times. Some people kayak in the channel behind the lagoon, but if you have kids you are better off kayaking in the lagoon, even though you can only rent them for a half hour. Dolphin program was very good. You can rent fishing rods and fish on a bridge nearby. It's an expensive resort, but you get what you pay for. When I added up all that I spent, it is the same as what I would pay for at an all inclusive resort. All the employees were very nice. We ate at Ocean one night. We thought it was good. We also ordered from the Beach Grill. Waiters are always walking around by the pool and lagoon and they take your order from your chair and deliver it right back to you. Many people complain about the food on Tripadvisor, but I had no problem with any of it. There was a ton of things for my kids to do. It's exciting at night - with the tiki torches and the pool lit up. On the weekends, there is live entertainment by the pool at night.

I live in the Keys and Hawks Cay is a place where I always go for my "Staycations". Multiple pools, bars, dolphins, jet-skis, beautiful rooms, best views, and cool pirate pool for the young ones. The staff is always accomidating and the resort is always clean. I recommend this place if you want it do everything the keys has to offer without traveling to 20 different places.

Room Tip: Just ask for a room with a view, they got em, and they don't cost extra.

First time staying at Hawks Cay. I thought it was a nice resort with nice service but it was definitely overpriced for what they offered. The breakfast choice and prices were ridiculously high! I had a better free breakfast at your average Holiday Inn! The resort is for people who want to sun themselves and drink. I'll not be going back. I will stay in Key West where there's more to offer guests.

They messed up our original reservation but upgraded our room. Service was poor until upper mgmt got involved.

We were there on July 4th weekend and there weren't enough pool lounge chairs because the resort was packed. Overall it was a great place and I would recommend it to families.

This is an awesome paradaise away from home resort!!! The surroundings are beautiful and the villas spacious and well kept. Love the indies club for kids. Food is good but high priced, true for most resorts! Overall we had a great time, this is definitely one the best family resorts in the keys!!!

This was our third time back to Hawks Cay over 15 years. Wife and kids love the saltwater lagoon. Came down with our small boat and stayed here instead of Marathon. We stayed in a 2/2 Sunset Villa. With adolescent kids, it makes it a vacation as you're not sleeping in a hotel room with someone wanting to watch TV and someone else wanting to go to sleep. Plenty of room and having a kitchen is a plus as the restaurants on property are very expensive and not very good. The Sunset Villas are the best! Our unit was clean and well maintained. However it is a long way to the hotel without a car. The shuttles are fine but you waste a lot of time waiting around.

What was disappointing about our stay was the service. It has gone downhill in the last four years since our last stay. Spending this kind of money, one would expect a focus on service quality. Starts with the valets and doormen. Open the door for you? Don't hold your breath. Follows with the staff around the lagoon and pool where you spend most of the time when not in your room. They just didn't seem to care and much of the time were more focused on socializing than making sure you got good customer service.

Great property. Very expensive. The employee pool in the middle keys must be pretty shallow as it seems they are scraping the bottom with some of the staff.

We spent three nights in a Sunset 2br 2.5 ba Townhouse at Hawks Cay. The townhouse was just large enough for the five of us and was very clean. Our unit did have a great sunset view and we even had nonaggressive iguanas slither/walk past the back porch a few times (the kids loved them). The Sunset units are the farthest from the main lagoon pool but it is only a ten minute walk. The only frustration we had was that the items we were told would be in the unit (DVD, laundry detergent, dish detergent, kitchen basics) were not there. When we called the front desk they said the sunset units are actually individually owned condos that they rent out for the owners and therefore they cannot guarantee what each owner will have in each unit. Also, on our last day housekeeping rang the doorbell several times at 8am saying that we had to leave so they could clean the unit for the next guests. We told them check out was at 11am and they could come back at that time. As for the actual hotel amenities: the resort is very quiet and relaxing, but they also have a great lagoon/pool area, and a kids club that is a lot of fun for kids and adults. We took the snorkeling trip from the marina to coffins patch and saw beautiful sea life. We also went parasailing from the marina which provided beautiful views of duck key. We will stay at Hawks Cay again, but probably try a different part of the property.

Dear HighEndTravel,

Thank you for taking the time share feedback from your recent stay. I'm glad to hear we can look forward to you and your family visiting again!

I want to apologize for the issues that you encountered with your villa. While it is true that the units are individually owned, all Hawks Cay Villas have standards as décor and the amenities in them that include laundry detergent and kitchen basics. DVD players are not standard, though some units may have them. I am so sorry that this was not accurately communicated to you.

One note for other travelers is that Hawks Cay Villas offer a standardized product; while Duck Key Vacation Rentals are individually owned and individually decorated. Duck Key Vacation Rentals look the same as Hawks Cay Villas from the outside and are located on the Resort grounds, so this can be a point of confusion for some.

There is no excuse for the incident you shared regarding our housekeeping team wanting to enter your villa before check-out time. I am so sorry for this and hope that you'll email me directly so that we better address this issue.

Thank you, again, for your comments. We look forward to welcoming you back soon.

Best regards,
Jennifer Dinan
