Owner description: Dive Duck Key in the heart of the Florida Keys is a full service retail scuba diving shop. Our dive shop and dive boat, the Seafari, are located at the Hawks Cay Resort, Duck Key, Florida. We specialize in reef and wreck scuba diving in the Florida Keys. Hawks Cay Resort is oceanside, which allows us to get to our destination quickly for a great day of scuba diving in the middle Keys. The coral reef off Duck Key is as close as 3 miles from our dock. Diving with our shop, Dive Duck Key, we can show you up to 30 different dive spots, located off Duck Key, mile marker 61, on the 180 mile chain of the Florida Keys' coral reef. The Florida Keys' coral reef is composed of thin plates or layers of calcium carbonate secreted over thousands of years by billions of tiny, soft-bodied animals called coral polyps. The reef is constantly growing new colonies of polyps on top of the skeletons of older ones. These coral formations can be seen just under the water's surface to deeper than we can dive recreationally. Dive Duck Key has a long list of fun things to do while vacationing in the Florida Keys. We offer great scuba diving trips, resort courses, SNUBA(R), and full scuba diving certification lessons. We rent all types of scuba gear - including tanks, regulator consoles, dive lights, weight belts, full/shorty wet suits, hoods, mask, prescription masks, fins, open heel fins with booties, snorkels - whatever you need to dive the Florida Keys. We also repair scuba diving equipment and we can fill your tanks with air, and have nitrox tanks available for rental. Dive Duck Key has a large inventory of scuba and snorkel retail items. Plus, our T-shirts are great; pirates, scuba dive and snorkel scenes, and of course, sharks!

The catamaran was huge which made for a nice smooth ride. No rocking... We want to a beautiful spot with turquoise water and so many fish. It was beautiful! And don't forget to do a sunset cruise! It was same boat with a beautiful sunset and cocktails.

Stayed closeby on duck key and went on an afternoon 2 tank dive . Quick ride out to the reef and easy shallow diving. Wayne , Schwenky? And Jorge were all great and made it a great dive . Would definitely recommend if in area .

I had an excellent time diving with Dive Duck Key. My girlfriend did her referral dives to complete her open water certification, and I did two days of diving off the boat. The instructors were great, I knew as soon as I started talking to them, that my gf was in good hands. They were knowledgable, safe and took their time teaching her in a one on one setting. The dive sites we went to were great and teeming with wildlife. The boat was comfortable, well equipped and well piloted by their staff. The only thing that kept this trip from being a 5/5 would have been if there were in-water divemasters/guides and not on-deck divemasters/guides. I'm an experienced diver, but its always nice having someone in the water who is familiar with the local reefs and wildlife. However, I would not let that deter me from diving with Dive Duck Key in the future.

The people who work for Dive Duck Key are very nice and the puppy who lives there is adorable. But Snuba trip is misleading and disappointing.

The Snuba trip is billed as something that anyone can do - even kids as young as 8 years old. However, there is no training given, just 5 minutes worth of instruction on the boat on the way out to the reef. Most inexperienced people cannot learn to clear their mask without practicing this in water. And, if you can't clear your mask, then diving is a miserable and frightening experience.

Moreover, the Dive Duck Keys boats go out even when the water is extremely choppy and they don't warn you that the water is very choppy.

So, on the trip I went on the water was extremely choppy. There were around 7 people who had never before scuba dived, including a number of children. (I am a certified diver so I was not one of them). Almost all of them cut their dives short and did not enjoy themselves.

I would not recommend this trip to anyone who is not a certified diver. Snuba is not really different from scuba (except that it is in more shallow water) - it can be scary and not enjoyable if you have not received at least some training, and Dive Duck Key gives you no training at all.

Let us start off by apologizing for your disappointment in your trip with us. We do need to clarify that SNUBA is described as an opportunity to breathe underwater without the typical 4 hr training session that scuba requires. Our orientation takes place during our canal tour through Duck Key. This a best speed takes 20 minutes and is very often extended beyond the confines of the canal by the captain not accelerating until the SNUBA instructor has completed the very thorough oral presentation. If you were uncomfortable with the concept of breathing underwater without practicing the skills underwater prior to arriving at the reef we would have been glad to steer your participants towards a resort SCUBA course. Weather and sea conditions in the Keys do change very rapidly but we make it our upmost concern to provide you with the conditions report prior to leaving the dock. It is unfortunate that you were left with such a negative impression of our activity and crew. We voluntarily exceed all SNUBA requirements and strive to provide an activity that promotes diving with an expert crew and beautiful setting. We are very glad that your opinion is one that isn't shared by many. Thank you.

This was one of the best parts of my trips to the Keys! The instructors were very helpful with showing how to use the equipment and making you feel really comfortable under water. The fish were absolutely amazing and not only did you get to see them, but got to touch the ones that were safe (our group held a starfish)! Our guide, Schwenke, showed a great tour of the reefs and pointed out tons of wildlife! The SNUBA was also great because we could go as deep as the scuba divers but didn't have to be certified. This was an amazing experience and I highly recommend it!
