“Destin - the best beach ever”
Reviewed August 23, 2006

I have been going to Destin for many years. This is a great place for singles, couples, or families. The beach is pure white, like snow or sugar. The water is clear, blue-green, and warm in the summer. Snorkeling is great, swimming is great. People are very friendly. Shopping is great with a huge top scale outlet mall nearby. Food is fantastic. Recommend staying on the beach, many condos to rent from....don't stay across the street, crossing the highway is very dangerous, especially with kids. You will need a car....May, June or September are great months to go. Gets very crowded during spring break. Most beaches with condos have lifeguards. There can be dangerous rip tides, so listen to the lifeguard and don't get lulled out too far, never go close to the sand bar (there are dangerous creatures on the other side and it drops off very deep, but you will see this, just don't be tempted). But if you stay reasonably close, you will have a wonderful swim. Sometimes water is so smooth you can just lay on a raft for hours. I recommend Silver Dunes to stay...but there are many others.....Silver Dunes is not a high rise, and actually has grass that leads into the beach, great for the kids after a day at the beach...with nice balconies. If you are looking for a beach, Destin is your place.....I would go there over Bermuda, Bahamas, etc.....Fly into Eglin Air Force Base. If you like seafood, get the amberjack. Kids will love this place, amusement parks right across the street, miniature golf....and bars for the twenty somethings. I don't recommend Fort Walton or Panama City....Destin is by far the best.....I have visited over a 100 times.....enjoy!

“Love Destin”
Reviewed July 27, 2004

We have stayed at the Sandestin Golf & Beach Resort the last two years during the 4th of July week. Saw the fireworks at the Beach this year.
Great area for peace and quiet. Stayed at the Bayside Inn, Bayside view.

Great Fun - restful and relaxing!!!

“Great Family Place”
Reviewed June 30, 2004

Taking our first trip to Destin was a breathtaking experience. We have been to a lot of beaches, including a few Islands like Bermuda and Cancun but the water and the sand on the Emerald Coast took the cake. We were intoxicated by it's beauty and immediately felt relaxed. The neighborhood that we booked a vacation home in was wonderful, especially for our kids. They had a "tram" service that ran through the neighborhood on a regular basis giving folks a ride to the beach area if you didn't want to walk it. This was great for my 80 year old mother who was with us on this vacation. The neighborhood is clean, beautifullly landscaped and quiet. There is even an icecream man that comes through everyday causing all of the kids to run after it and stand in line for ice cream just like the good o'l days. The only downfall is that the beach is across a big highway so you can't let your kids go by themselves. Also, the private beach area for Emerald Shores is small and crowded but the people were all so nice it didn't really bother us much. All in all, we will definately book the house again next year. It was beautifully furnished and had every comfort of home included such as a laundry room with laundry soap, pots and pans and tastefully unusual dinnerware that was kind of fun to use. The bathrooms all had soap and clean towels too. One thing though is you must bring your own beach towels as they do not allow you to bring the bath towels to the beach. You wouldn't really want to because they are too small anyway. One more downfall is that when you get to the beach, the cute little umbrella and chair sets that you spot all over the beach are not for free. We thought that it was part of the private community ammenities for the residence but quickly found out that there is a separate company that sets them up for a fee ($25.00). We went to Walmart and bought our own for $8.00. Destin is kind of crowded and very expensive so bring lot's of money. All of the stores there are triple the price of what we are used to paying at home. Not quiet sure why though. Even though we loved the neighborhood we stayed in, we would consider a quieter, less crowded beach a little further up from Destin as well.

“Loved Destin”

My husband and I recently spent a week in Destin and loved it. The area is very clean and well kept, the beaches are beautiful. We especially enjoyed early morning walks and were able to watch Dolphins feeding near the shoreline.
