We arrived on Thurs. 3/20 and were told that we owed another $160 for unexplained fees and that the girl didn't know what they were for just, that we had to pay it to get the keys. We had fully paid our bill by AM Ex prior to arriving. Other guests were also complaining about their hidden fees. We later learned that we were charged $28 a day for 5 days for the use of the magnetic keys that open the door. Also, there was a non-refundable damage deposit.
We also were told that our condo had not been cleaned and was not ready for check-in. Several other guests were also waiting for their condos that were not ready. The girl at the front desk said she would call us on the cell when we could check-in. She called us, but only to tell us that she was going home at 5:00 and we would have to pick-up the key at the Majestic Suns condo. When we went there, they said they did not have the keys but made no attempt to solve the problem. In fact they rolled their eyes when we voiced disgust. We personally went back to Ariel Dunes II to try to find out where the keys were. She said she sent them over but then went to the back and "found or made" the keys for us after sending us on a "wild goose chase". (just what you are in the mood for after a 9 hour drive) All of this took about 3 hours. Also, there was a lot of noise and partying going on making sleeping difficult, but it was Spring Break. Maybe this does not go on all the time. However, we did talk to a .local who was familiar with the property and discovered this also happened last year but he thought it was because it was new and they didn't quite have their act together. The lobby is basically only manned through the week and only until 5:00 PM. It is an eery feeling to know you are on your own.
The condo was pretty and the view was great but we could have booked ocean side for the same price when you add on the other fees. There are too many condos for rent to put up with this unethical, sneaky way of doing business. Someone told us it would be much better to book directly through a condo owner.
