We took the 3:00 PM Southern Star Dolphin Cruise out of the Destin Harbor on December 21. We saw many, many dolphins. The normal itinerary is to take a narrated tour of the harbor first, followed by the search for dolphins. However, as the cruise started, the Captain immediately spotted dolphins. As a result, our itinerary was changed such that we did the dolphin watching first, followed by the tour of the harbor. We say baby dolphins, several pods of dolphins, and watched dolphins play at the bow of the boat... It was also fun to watch the feeding of the seagulls! Overall, it was a fun couple of hours (even though it was freezing cold outside)!

This was an amazing 2 hours in the bay and on the gulf. It was a beautiful October late afternoon, and we saw tons of dophins, many sharks, a couple sea turtles, some jellyfish, etc. There had to have been four or five pods of dolphins that we were able to get up close to and have them follow the boat, often jumping in the wake of the ship. Lots of interesting information shared by the captain as well. The ship is a good size and it was clear that this was the best cruise in the harbor and many of the other smaller boats seemed at a loss of where to go and kept following where the Southern Star was to spot any dolphins. When in the Destin area this is a must, and also very reasonably priced. If you have kids, take the Pirate Ship cruise, it is just a good and much more entertaining for the kids. We didn't take it, but saw families who were on it and they were all in good spirits.

Did 1 PM dolphin cruise on a Thrsd afternoon . Had quick lunch in nearly pub and fould the boat just in time for boarding.
Water was perfect so we were able to venture out into the gulf (not always the case) looking for dolphin and sharks.
The crew members were great - free drinink water and pay-as-you go non-alcholic drinks and snacks available below deck. Perfect weather and swells allow rare treat of sunshine - wind and dolphis everywhere. Capt gave running commentary on water color - bay development, multi-million dollar condos and boats that lined the coast as we exited and returned. Capt did great job of spotting pods of dolphins on the surface and steering boat safely up to them. No Sea World acrobatics on the dolphin parts - but great to see these magnificient mammals free to swim and frolic in their envirnoment. Boat does have glass bottom - but at cruising speed - no real reason to go below deck. No sharks spottent this time - but none expected.
Great relaxful trip - a great experience for not a lot of money. Might be good to get there early and walk around and find the boat before boarding time. Plenty of close by free parking.
Make sure you ask about Senior and miliraty discount rates.

We've gone on the Southern Star Dolphin Cruise 3 times and each time it is amazing. The crew is friendly, the place is spotlessly clean and most importantly, we see a LOT of dolphins every time. Last time we saw spotted dolphins in addition to the bottlenose variety. The kids love feeding the seagulls as we head out, and the sunsets are just beautiful on the return. Highly recommended!
