We have been coming down to Destin for 4-5 years in a row and usually twice a year. We have been to Poppy's before and nothing really stood out until last Fall We noticed a difference from the previous year and wanted to meet the Chef. After meeting Chef Tyler and several of the bartenders and staff last fall, we really fell in love with this spot. You will find good food all over Destin and the surrounding areas, but service and doing the extra things without asking for it, is what sets one place apart from another. Don't get me wrong the food is excellent, shrimp, fish tacos, and Mahi were all excellent. Tyler and the staff is what sets this place apart. I ordered something new on the menu, and both the server and Tyler asked what I thought, and truly cared about the dinning experience and the quality of the food.
On Monday evening Tyler told us to come Wednesday with my in laws and that he would have something special for us. Tyler true his word of taking care of his customers, offered to cook Cobia that he caught himself earlier in the week. He created an off the menu meal just for our group. My mother and father-in-law were blown away by the meal and how unique the experience was. I have twin girls who got to know a couple of the servers and staff and they wanted to keep coming back, because they loved being in the restaurant. Having so many options to eat in Destin, we ended up eating here 3 times during the week and came in for drinks and March Madness, because we truly enjoyed interacting with the staff and the experience.
