“Disappointed with Condo and booking experience”
Reviewed July 20, 2012

I booked 2 condos through Orbitz, upon checking in, we discovered neither condo was the accomodations we were promised. We were short on beds. Not having enough sleeping room for our party, I was on the phone with the Resort and Orbitz, of course neither of them could accomodate our needs. We stayed in the condos for 4 nights, very uncomfortable. One morning on our way to the beach, we were met by a manager who told us that we could not use our personal umbrella, that we had to use the Resort's. Ok, the Resort's were sandwhiched in so close to each other and for a pricey fee, we could sit on top of each other. There were other's on the beach with personal umbrellas, we felt we were picked on just a litlle by this. We did not return to the beach. I called the front desk for more towels and was told I had 2 options, either wash what we had using the hallway laundry or pay $7.25 for fresh ones. If I had to wash my own towels, laundry should have been provided in our condo. Not enough elevators to accomodate the people at the resort. It took over half an hour waiting on elevators to check out. It was ridiculous. Overflow parking lot was way across the street in an unsecure area, and you had to cross the busy Hwy 98 on foot. Not worth the $$ they charge for this resort. Will never stay there again. This Resort will such you dry on cash!!!!

Room Tip: Don't book through Orbitz!

We stayed here in mid July in a 2br/2bath condo... the unit was spacious and well equipped with everything that we needed for a week away from home, the kitchen had all the pots, pans and gadgets that we needed... I brought extra toilet paper, paper towels and bath towels but what they provided was sufficient for us... there is a Target, Walmart and Winn-Dixie very close by. The beach and views are wonderful!! We have gone to Mexico every year for the past 8 yrs. since we usually get great all-inclusive deals, but this will be our new vacation spot!! It is driving distance (about 9 hrs for us).. long, but not terrible, and the Gulf Coast is great! The beaches are beautiful, warm, CLEAR water and the whitest sand I've ever seen, the color of the water changes from blue to green depending on the sky/clouds, but it was beautiful and blue almost all days we were there despite the 50% chance of predicted rain everyday.... We really enjoyed the beach the most out of everything, the water is shallow for about 100 feet out and the waves were really nice to play in although they got rough with the onset of rain...I would definitely say the beaches are a close second to Riviera Maya beaches in Mexico or Bahamas and clearer than some of the Caribbean beaches that I've gone to!! This is the biggest deal for me, I can swim in a pool at home, I travel for the BEACH!! They do have two small pools, one indoor and one outdoor, nice option in case of rain or rough waves. My kids kept saying the sand looked like snow... the people are nice, friendly, laid back, there are enough restaurants to choose from and the scenery along the coastal beach towns and sand dunes are beautiful!! Not to mention it felt good to support the local economy by staying in the US!
The con:
If you have more than one car, one car has to park across the street behind chic-fil-a, this is a real hassle b/c it is almost impossible to cross hwy 98 on foot or in a car, the traffic along the condo/hotel zone is terrible!! There are ppl out walking and crossing the street, but there are no designated cross walks or pedestrian lights. This was a minor hiccup but a hassle nonetheless..., especially if it rained... they really need to find a way to accommodate all cars on the same side of the street or create a catwalk... outside of the parking issue, we had a great stay!!!
The umbrellas/chair are nonrefundable if it rains, it is $25 for all day, $15 for 4 hours

Room Tip: We had a coastline view and it was a great view of the beach!

My sister, mother and I stayed here for a mother's day trip and had an amazing time! The condo was great, the view from our balcony was amazing, and the employees were very nice and helpful. There is a nice arcade for kids, a bar/restaurant and free dvd rentals to enjoy. There is also a Waffle House across the street, as well as an ice cream/yogurt place and souvenior stores. We never had to drive anywhere during our entire stay. We will definitely be back next year for mother's day again!

The ocean in Destin is really great so you it hard to not have a good time while you are there. With that said, we did have some major issues with our booking:

Problem 1: We booked our vacation through bookit.com. The description said the condo included two queen beds in the second room, which we needed because we were all couples on the trip. The day before arrival I called to check our reservation only to find out that the second room had twin beds instead of queen beds. After the bookit agent checked the listing for the condo, she confirmed this was a mistake and called the Resort. The resort of coarse had no more rooms (it was memorial day weekend) nor were they willing to do anything except cancel the reservation without a fee. I tried calling the resort personally and they told me there was nothing they could do nor would they comp us in any way.

So we took the room anyways. The room was very small and the furniture was typical of florida condos. The view of coarse was nice.

Problem 2: Like many people have stated, the umbrella/chairs are a huge PROBLEM. Not only is it an extra cost but it just doesn't work out because it leaves others no beach room. So you pay but end up like sardines anyway.
After reading the reviews, I was ready to pay the daily rate for chairs for our entire stay upon arrival (you have to wake up early and go stand in line in order to reserve the chairs). They start you out in the back row and work you up if you book for multiple days. On the last day of our stay, we finally made it to the front row. But when we got out, people who DID NOT RENT CHAIRS were literally in front of us with their own chairs. We asked them nicely to let us put our chairs back (yes they had the audacity to move OUR rental out of the way for their personal charis!). But they would not move any further than from being under our umbrella. It became a very uncomfortable situation very quickly. The young people handling the chair rentals said there was nothing they could do.
If we had to pay SOOOO MUCH just to get a descent spot on the beach, and we had to wait 3 days to get to the front row by the beach, you would think part of the policy of the hotel would be that people can't sit under your rental. All in all it was a huge costly annoyance that no one at the hotel was willing to help with.

Room Tip: Don't expect the bedding you booked just because the description says it.

We stayed at the Sundestin beach resort!! It was a very nice condo the rooms was very nice we stayed in room 1010 one bedroom bunkbeds and sofa bed the rooms were very clean and neat the pool was very nice and clean too. Only had one problem unless you rented a chair and umbrella for $25 for the whole time you was there and got on the front row you were not able to see the beach cause the chairs and umbrella's was so close together you could not see the beach and we brought 3 children and one of them is a 4 year old and i cant sit in the back row and see a 4 year old playing in the water (it was rediculous). We spent $1400.00 for a condo for our vacation to spend at the beach and could not even sit on the beach by the water!!!!! I had spoke to the people at the front desk about this when the beach police come and told us we had to move and the desk people told us they could not do anything about it cause it was their policy, i told them i would not be back!!! So we ended up driving down to a public beach were you could sit were you wanted!! Next time i will stay at a cheaper condo and walk to a public beach!!! And the only reason i gave the rating's a 2 is because of the beach deal the rooms were very nice!!!!

This place is in a great location. The staff works hard to keep everything clean and looking nice. The pools were very clean also. We had great beach weather but when setting up our personal umbrellas and chairs we were approached by the "umbrella police". After about five minutes of being settled comfortable in the sand they came to us and said "sorry sir you can't have that on this beach "insurance reason's" (code for: buy our umbrella and 2 chairs for $25 stacked the whole length of the beach 3 deep, or else!!!). We were left with no other option but to sit behind all of their umbrellas and chairs and couldn't see the water! Also, the umbrellas were situated so closely together that you couldn't even walk between them to get to the water. The main goal of vacationing in Florida is to enjoy the beach. This was almost impossible to achieve at this resort.
Next time I will look for a place to relax on the beach with a view of the water not rows of empty beach chairs and umbrellas.
We've been going to the beach for 25yrs never had this happen before

Room Tip: Rooms are great the beach staff is the main the problem.

Our stay at Sundestin was great. Room was great , along with the staff and beach right outside the door. The location was great. The only drawback was if you had more than one vehicle in your travel partty, the other vehicle had to park across Hwy 98 behind Chick-fil-A. That was a pain. Need more parking, or at least a lot where you don't have to cross that busy hwy to get your vehicle. Otherwise, it was great.

Room Tip: Just great overall. Had a great view from our room
