Unique and fun, casual , great food. Amusing gentleman owner and cook. Would have loved to have a beer along with food.

“Really Great Q”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 13, 2013

As has been said here by others, this Q is fabulous. The owner (who is a little bit grouchy) is usually serving his grub through the front window and taking your money at the register. His son operates their other restaurant Lillies Q in Chicago, which is where they make all of their outstanding sauces.

There is one window to order, pay and pick up your order. Outdoor seating is next to the highway, but the food is so good that you don't really notice. Many orders are served to-go. For a mostly one man operation, things move quickly.

If you like your Q with no sauce at all, you will love this place. If you love your Q with sauce, you will love it as well. If you like sauce a little on the spicy side, try the Hot Smoky. The Carolina is much the same but toned down spice-wise. For a change, I sometimes try the Carolina Gold which is a mustard vinegar sauce. Very nice change of pace.

I have tried everything on the menu from the ribs to the chicken and pork and back again. It is just one of those "You can't go wrong" kind of places. If they have the Whole Hog sandwich featured, buy one, or two! For $8 it is the best Q sandwich you will find anywhere at any price!

Sadly, a "for sale" sign is displayed out front. Hopefully, a new owner will come along to take the baton and keep this place going for many years to come!

“Top notch BBQ”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 4, 2013

Always have perfectly done ribs for take home, and great side dishes, too. Owner remembers us from year to year, and although is often sold out, can always find us something. Those of you familiar with the Memphis in May bar-be-que competition, will know exactly why the owner frequently wins. The proof is in the taste.

“This is the real deal.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 2, 2013 via mobile

Good barbecue is great food and that's what you get here. Yeah, the traffic may be noisy but be thankful nobody's shooting at you, fistfighting in the corner or worse. In fact, when I pulled in there today two police cars were pulling out which contributed a lot to the environment. I've gone to great lengths to find serious barbecue. This pit master knows his stuff. First clue are the sauces on the counter where you order. The dude gets the subtle differences between barbecue in North and South Carolina, for example, and even the regional differences. He uses good wood that lets him cook low and slow without adding that nasty carbon taste that passes for smokey in some places. But his product is smokey.
Ribs: the meat did not fall from the bone, a common failure resulting from cheating in tinfoil or pre-boiling or cooking in sauce. The meat lifts from the bone with two fingers just the nature intended. My 8 year-old rib loving grand daughter demonstrated today. The smoke ring is deep". We both appreciate the "serve dry and sauce at the table" approach.
The sides were okay which serves to emphasize the priority. I'll be back tomorrow! And the next day,

“Best BBQ....bar none!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 11, 2013

Fall off the bone ribs, melt in your mouth pulled pork. Your choice of 6 sauces, and you can get all 6 if you can't decide! Don't put off trying this place...there's a "for sale" sig out front :(
