We've stayed here during visits for the past 20 years since it's close to where my parents live. I've seen all the iterations of this property. Upon my return last night, I felt it's important to share some of my recent observations from this Dec. and the Oct. trips.
First, the positive: the Hotel Staff members are WONDERFUL. Those by the pool really work hard to provide what you need with SMILES. Likewise the Valet parking attendants are fast and helpful.
Restaurant staff are equally thoughtful and cheerful. The only grumpy, not happy person was one of the female concierge staff...just surly and not helpful. There's a male concierge later in the day who is far more helpful with smiles and jokes.
The pool is warm and beautiful with the ocean across the street.
Here's the bad news: The rooms are rundown with poor AC and facilities. The hotel rooms need an upgrade with better control for AC.
Even more disturbing on all my recent trips (one including Gov. Romney), the pool area can be filled with LOUD, DRUNK, UNCOUTH people, families, kids who are yelling and screaming. This is NOT A HIGH CLASS, THOUGHTFUL Crowd who stays here. The pool area did not have towel/chaise assistance in the morning. The pool restaurant has the same few poor choices for luncheon and just pushes drinks till the pool crowd gets loud and drunk. Screaming children in the pool with no one, parent or hotel person, to tell them to quiet down a bit. Just a Horrible, NOT RELAXING POOL SPACE. The pool area BLASTS LOUD MUSIC so you cannot have a conversation with your friends, you cannot read or have a phone conversation. DO NOT PLAN ON RELAXING BY THE POOL.
Do NOT get a room over the pool because the partying with loud drunken people goes on till all hours of the night and the hotel staff says nothing.
There's construction going on in front of the hotel so be aware of that noise too.
For the money you will spend during high season, I'd advise you to bypass this hotel and choose others on the AIA or nearby the beach in the Boca, Delray, Palm Beach area.
