“Great Location - Worn Down Rooms - LOUD ANIMALS @ POOL”
Reviewed December 10, 2012

We've stayed here during visits for the past 20 years since it's close to where my parents live. I've seen all the iterations of this property. Upon my return last night, I felt it's important to share some of my recent observations from this Dec. and the Oct. trips.

First, the positive: the Hotel Staff members are WONDERFUL. Those by the pool really work hard to provide what you need with SMILES. Likewise the Valet parking attendants are fast and helpful.
Restaurant staff are equally thoughtful and cheerful. The only grumpy, not happy person was one of the female concierge staff...just surly and not helpful. There's a male concierge later in the day who is far more helpful with smiles and jokes.
The pool is warm and beautiful with the ocean across the street.

Here's the bad news: The rooms are rundown with poor AC and facilities. The hotel rooms need an upgrade with better control for AC.
Even more disturbing on all my recent trips (one including Gov. Romney), the pool area can be filled with LOUD, DRUNK, UNCOUTH people, families, kids who are yelling and screaming. This is NOT A HIGH CLASS, THOUGHTFUL Crowd who stays here. The pool area did not have towel/chaise assistance in the morning. The pool restaurant has the same few poor choices for luncheon and just pushes drinks till the pool crowd gets loud and drunk. Screaming children in the pool with no one, parent or hotel person, to tell them to quiet down a bit. Just a Horrible, NOT RELAXING POOL SPACE. The pool area BLASTS LOUD MUSIC so you cannot have a conversation with your friends, you cannot read or have a phone conversation. DO NOT PLAN ON RELAXING BY THE POOL.

Do NOT get a room over the pool because the partying with loud drunken people goes on till all hours of the night and the hotel staff says nothing.

There's construction going on in front of the hotel so be aware of that noise too.

For the money you will spend during high season, I'd advise you to bypass this hotel and choose others on the AIA or nearby the beach in the Boca, Delray, Palm Beach area.

Room Tip: If you have to stay here, ask for a room that is NOT over the pool area. The pool blasts LOUD MUSIC...

We stayed here for three days in November as part of a vacation. Upon arrival we were upset to see that there was heavy construction work at the front corner of the hotel where they were building villas. The hotel had not advised us of this - it was noisy, dusty and the adult only pool was closed down. That said, we were offered a free upgrade, which we were grateful for.

The good
- pool area was clean and spacious, the beds very comfortable and the water warm
- well designed and welcoming interiors
- spacious and modern rooms
- free wifi with excellent reception throughout the hotel
- excellent location opposite the beach
- excellent food at the pool side bar

The not so good
- one or two unfriendly and snooty reception staff
- high parking charges - $20 a night
- hotel full of business meetings where the "suits" would hover around the pool at all their break times on their mobiles. This made us feel uncomfortable when in swimwear
- good 15 minute walk to the main bars and restaurants in delray beach

We found Delray Beach to be very expensive, and also too quiet midweek, not many restaurants opened late and there was little vibe in the bars.

The Marriott was overall a good hotel and may have been seen in a better light if the building work wasnt taking place.

Room Tip: Ocean view is a must. There are some rooms with no view - and I believe there are internal facing ro...

This was the second time we've stayed at the hotel and enjoyed it immensely. Everything about it is first class. The location, the ocean view, the rooms, the maid and valet service, the restaurants and food, the front desk staff/concierge/customer service, the bar and entertainment are all outstanding. A great place to get away, relax and enjoy!!!!

Room Tip: Rooms in the North Tower with an ocean view are wonderful!

there were some really good things- concierge was extremely helpful for our Thanksgiving Dinner, Pool staff was very attentive. The valet was very fast.

there were some OK things - one wing of the hotel was under renovation ( i would call it construction). which is good as the rooms were a little tired for the price paid. The noise level from other rooms was at an all time high - maybe this is because we had screaming kids by us though! There was one day when the cleaning staff didn't make it up to our room until 5:30pm (while we were in it getting ready to go out for dinner).

i also wished when i asked them (over the phone locally) if they were on the beach. they would have told me they are on a public beach - which all hotels are in Del Ray.

This hotel advertises as a full service, high end, Marriott located in a beachfront location. I'm giving this hotel an average rating not because there was something terribly wrong but because if you advertise and charge as premium hotel you should be evaluated accordingly.
The hotel is under construction but this did not affect my stay at all since my room was on the opposite end. The lobby style is "majestic" perhaps dated but the overall look is nice. The staff is friendly. I checked in on a Wednesday a little after 4:00PM and had to wait for a while because reserved guest rooms were not ready...
My room was clean, well maintained and small. The view was to a parking garage, the sliding glass door directly faced another building and I had a partial but pretty ocean view. The room needs a new comforter, new mattress, new pillows and new linen. The once fluffy comforter was dead flat, the pillows were lumpy and the linen was on the rough side. Not a five star accommodation but clean.
As mentioned earlier the staff was great specially the valet parkers who were supper friendly and extremely helpful.
Although the review states the room was average, i will not have a problem staying at this hotel again.

Need to weigh in on the negative review posted below. We stay at this property 2-3 times every year. Obviously, we return because we are very satisfied.

The staff has always been outstanding. They are courteous, helpful and willing to go above and beyond to deliver good customer service. When we made reservations to be there in September, two separate people were sure to let us know there would be construction at the property, and recommended a room where it would be quietest. Of course hotels occasionally have to refresh; that's a good thing, right?

There are no hotels on the water in this area, but it is literally less than a minute from the front door of the hotel until you are on the (absolutely gorgeous) beach. When we are staying for a few days, we stop at store on the way from the airport and buy beach chairs and an umbrella, avoiding the $35/day fee on the beach. (This is NOT a hotel fee; it is the company that services the beach.) But if you prefer, the pool area is beautiful and well maintained.

The food at this property is better than the average Marriott; we are Marriott Rewards members, and have sampled the food at many.. The breakfast buffet is wonderful.... generous and bountiful. The very attentive staff is present in the restaurant as well.

I have many numerous positive interactions over time. Just one example: When we checked in for one visit, the lovely woman who checked us in engaged us in conversation. When I mentioned we were there to deal with some stressful family matters, she upgraded our room and gave me passes to the spa!

I highly recommend this property. Sean, the manager, who I have spoken with but never even seen, deserves kudos.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a partial ocean view.
