It's been a month since we stayed here. Selfishness kept me from writing a review sooner -- I wanted to keep this place a secret! Reasonably priced, perfectly located, fastidiously clean (just the way I like it), this is a way cool historic hotel with gorgeous mile-long hallways that have pristine wood floors. The lobby and veranda are airy, charming, and colorful - wonderful for relaxing and enjoying a leisurely breakfast. Our bathroom was spacious with hooks and ample space for our toiletries. (We did hear the train each night, but imagine you can hear it from just about anywhere in town.) The beach club was a gem ... A throwback from another era, slightly run-down, full of character, scenic, peaceful ... We brought two guests with us and all four of us enjoyed our lunches. My fish sandwich was delicious! We arrived when the kitchen was about to close but were warmly welcomed to dine and our server seemed to truly be enjoying himself. all in all, the Colony Hotel was a very pleasant surprise and greatly exceeded our expectations. But ... forget I told you!

Staying at this quirky hotel was a lot of fun. The front porch/veranda where you are literally steps from Atlantic Ave. was a favorite place to have a drink and people watch. The working fireplace was a nice touch. The flamboyant colors in the spectacular lobby harken back to a tropical 1930's hideaway. Room 207 was reasonably quiet and very spacious. The highly polished wooden floors were a welcome relief from wall to wall carpet. The park your own car lot is a good change from valet parking....and everything on Atlanitc Ave. is an easy walk from their location. Special note to the staff....everyone was accommodating and friendly without being intrusive. We appreciated their input on which restaurants to visit...don't miss Scuola Vecchia just across the street for excellent Italian food. The beach club was excellent also. Umbrellas and lounge chairs on the beach and then lounge chairs near the pool. Next year we are going to be sure to eat lunch at the beach club now that we learned how to put the umbrella up ourselves.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 207 and the walk up or down was an easy one. If you have bags you should use the manned elevator.

My first trip to Delray Beach. It's like going to south beach, loved the active nightlife, shops, restaurants and bars. The staff was very friendly. the lobby is beautiful from a bygone era, very tropical looking. Loved the front porch, plenty of tables and chairs. There was a great jazz sax player/singer on friday night. I don't believe that they had any food at all at night. We needed a fork around 8 pm and the hotel couldn't accommodate. There is a nice free breakfast, eggs, bacon, ham, muffins. Our room size was adequate, we liked the air conditioner, the room was very comfortable and clean. I would highly recommend the delray yacht cruises, 1 mile away on the waterway, for $23 for 2 hours you will cruise by beautiful mansions, on a beautiful modern yacht, waitress service served us drinks on the top deck. We had a blast at the sand bar next to Bostons, very cool outdoor place. Happy hour drinks and food. We enjoyed the hotel's private beach and got there by their shuttle (free),runs about 5 times a day. There is plenty of free parking out back. I had put a plastic baggie of vitamins on the shelf in the bathroom and all of them were missing, except for one each.

Room Tip: We had a room on the 2nd floor, very easy to walk up the stairs, if you don't want the elevator.

I had a wonderful lunch at the Colony Hotel Cabana Club. A charming club right on the ocean with a fabulous beach restaurant . The food was fresh and the atmosphere was serene , just what you are looking for in a beach vacation. Will go back every chance I get. There is no place like it.

My BF and I stayed here on Sunday, December 9. My company put us up for two nights at the Seagate which is a very impressive upscale property. The third night of this trip was on our own, so we selected The Colony Hotel and Cabana to round out our stay.

The hotel is on East Atlantic, which is the hub of restaurants and shops for Delray Beach. Good location! The common areas are not air conditioned. Without the use of ceiling fans, the air movement was not significant, so the humidity made it pretty sticky.

Being that it is a historic property, the 86-year old elevator has to be manually operated by one of the hotel staff, which was kind of cool. On the lobby level, an antique switchboard sits near the elevator entrance. Those antiques made it truly a step back in time.

The property is meticulously clean. On-site parking is free - a big bonus. The cabana club is off-site, probably a 1/2 mile walk away. A very basic complimentary breakfast was served in the lobby area in the morning.

My only complaint was that the room we were in, #225, has a window-unit air conditioner. The unit has a scheduled on/off thermostat. Having not used a window-unit air conditioner in decades, we had no idea how to operate the beast. By about 3 a.m., our room temperature registered 85. We were sweltering. We figured out enough about how to lower the temperature to something more comfortable, but the unit reset itself again later to 85 degrees. It would be of utmost importance for the hotel staff to instruct its guests on operating the air conditioner or better yet, pre-program a soon-to-be-occupied room with a comfortable round-the-clock temperature. We found no instructions on operation of the beast anywhere in the room. We're both fairly intelligent and intuitive people, but we could not figure out how to unprogram/reprogram the beast. It made for a disruptive and uncomfortable night's sleep.

Room 225 is near the maid's housekeeping area. We could hear a lot of chatter early in the morning among the staff. We would have preferred quiet during the early morning hours.

Otherwise, the property was fun for a night. Very "Key West" ish. Bright colors, hardwood floors and immaculately kept.

The front desk staff was very kind and friendly.
