“History in the making...”
Reviewed August 4, 2011

I chose this hotel because I wanted to get a break away from everyday life for a couple of days and I've never been more satisfied.
Located in the downtown/historical area of DeFuniak, it was surrounded by beautiful Victorian styled homes and a variety antique, book and gift shops. The staff was amazingly kind, looking for each and every possible way to accomidate my stay.
Their breakfast was brilliant as well. The GM even went out of his way to make a plate for me, despite being a few minutes late. There is an attached restaurant, which they immediately ask each day if they should make a reservation for you.
The rooms are spacious and absolutely beautiful and the same goes for their enormous bathrooms - mine had a walk-in shower which was simply divine. I was so enamored by the ornate decorations both in my room and elsewhere, I took several photos to simply brag over.
This is a hotel that I most definitely plan on staying at in the future, going as far as renting each of their rooms.
If you want a break from the mundane, this is absolutely the place!!

The hotel experience was wonderful. Just what we expected and more. Clean, spacious and quiet. A good night's rest including a turn down service if you'd like. We felt like we were at home, just wish our home was that clean. Great food, four star restaurant and a excellent wine list. Hated to leave and we will return. Check it out!

A must for anyone who enjoys the mix of historical ambiance and up-to-date, tasteful amenities. The service was exquisite and guests are made to feel like royalty. I have never slept in such comfort away from home! The adjoining restaurants were ambrosial and the library offered a plethora of interesting books - some that walk you back in time to the DeFuniak of yesteryear. My husband and I have made memories here and look forward to future visits...

My husband booked this "inn" type hotel (sort of also like a bnb) for a one night getaway for us (we live about an hour away in PC). The hotel was very clean. It was decorated in an elegant but livable style. The staff was very attentive and friendly. The breakfast was tasty. The adjoining restaurant was peaceful, romantic, and very very good. I am not a "cuisine" type menu person. I had the almondine fish-it was super! Our waitress was friendly. One funny thing that did happen (well to us it was funny-you may not think so) was that we could hear our noisy neighbors in the throes of ecstasy (through the walls) which lasted an unusually LONG time (Come on Lady, seriously?!). And at breakfast, we spent our morning trying to figure out which guests from the 11 room hotel were so noisy, haha. There is NOT MUCH to do in Defuniak. So this hotel is great if you're just passing through or just want a peaceful getaway from your busy life. We tried a stroll through town and only one store was even open on a Friday afternoon.

This a great place to stay; particularly when you are 'chained out'. This is an older property that is renovated to modern standards. Comfortable bed, lots of pillows, fast internet, good AC. They are very friendly and nice. Breakfast is very good as well.

Be sure to eat in the restaurant next door. The chef can really cook!

My wife and I have spent two separate weekends here and the place is beautiful, the people are great and the quality of the food in the restaurant puts many a New Orleans chef to shame. The menu is extensive and the service can't be beat. (Try the Lorenzo--broiled catch of the day smothered with crab-meat dressing --last night I had the grouper and it was the best broiled fish I've ever had in a restaurant.)

The rooms are great--not the ho-hum chain hotel furnishings here...The breakfast resets the bar and redefines the word "continental"....also several antique/junk/thrift stores in the area and for shooters--a few gun & pawn shops as well....about 12 miles east is Ponce de Leon--check out the three springs (millions of gallons of water flowing up from the aquifer at 68 degrees and forming beautiful lakes for swimming, diving and kayaking)...Morrison Springs (free state park with boat launch and pavilions--beautiful cypress trees and blue water), Vortex Springs (privately owned with an entrance fee and good for swimming fun and diving and also a camping section for RVs). The third location is Ponce de Leon Springs ( a small gate fee but real nice)..Be prepared for the 68 degree water and bring snorkels, fins and masks)...also take a walk in the sand-bottomed creek downstream from the weir...beautiful scenery....

Back to Hotel DeFuniak--well worth the money; you won't be disappointed....also, for RR buffs, the CSX trains pass through a few times daily. Stroll a block south down to the RR depot and below that--a fairly large lake with a paved walking path around the perimeter--really nice scenery with the live oaks...

Room Tip: Suite # 9 & # 1 are both real nice--I believe the rooms are nice too but we always get a suite...

A week before we were to leave on are driving vacation we decided to break up the first day's travel and find a place midway. We came across Hotel DeFuniak in our computer search and we are so glad. A beautiful place with lots of impressive antique furniture. The manager Howell is a delight. Very helpful and full of humor. Not only is the place nice on the eyes but most importantly the bed we had was wonderful. We were in the French Country room. The desk was made from an antique pedal sewing machine! jWe were so impressed that before leaving the next morning we made reservations to stay here on are return trip. Try it out. You won't be sorry. Oh yes, and It has an elevator.
