The Plaza has spectacular views from the oceanside rooms. The lobby is very nice and the staff helpful. The hallways and elevators have an unpleasant smell. Our first room smelled of cigars, even though it is a non-smoking hotel, and needed a thorough cleaning. We were moved to a different room and were much happier with the new room. However, the carpeting was so dirty and worn I was reluctant to go barefoot. The bathroom is very small. The room has a refrigerator, microwave, kitchen sink and cupboards, which are nice for a prolonged stay. The bed was comfortable and the room was fairly quiet, unless something noisy was taking place on the beach. The room had a balcony, which was nice for enjoying the beach and ocean, however the smell of tobacco and pot was strong on the balcony (it was the first week of spring break and just prior to bike week). This was our third stay at the Plaza and will likely be our last, as it has gone downhill fast. I'm sure there are better places for the price.

The Plaza Resort and Spa is a good hotel overall, with many nice features, including a good pool area and walkway directly to the beach. The beachfront location is on the Northern side of Daytona Beach which in theory is a bit quieter.

You should book a beachfront room and try to avoid rooms that look out on the strip, since late night merriment and loud cars and motorcycles make it pretty noisy into the late night hours. Parking is conveniently located in the hotel and there is a spa, restaurant, etc. and other good restaurants within walking distance, although you will need a car to get to the better places.

The staff is helpful and efficient and rooms are large and very clean with comfortable beds and furnishings. WIFI is free and fast.

Nice stretch of beech to walk on up to the nearby pier. A short drive to good restaurants like Bonefish Grill, Ronin for sushi, and others.

Room Tip: Pick a beach view room. Avoid rooms facing the street, which is the main drag in Daytona Beach

Overall, we liked the hotel. We arrived earlier than the check in time, but the front desk staff was very accomodating and we ended up with an ocean front room, in lieu of the ocean view room we reserved, for the same price. The ocean view from two sides was amazing. However, because of the renovation, we could not open our patio doors. The windows were a bit dirty. The room had a few minor dings in the paint, but overall it was fine.

The bathroom is small; very small. Pedestal sink makes it hard to have a place to put toiletries, and they tend to fall into the trash. It is a tub/shower set up and there aren't any safety bars, so that may be a consideration for older guests. The linens provided were fine - not opulent, but better than average, and of sufficient quantity.

The bed was comfortable, with nice linens. Pillows were standard hotel grade. Lighting in the room was adequate. The TV was a standard 47 inch. The internet connection was not good. Our connection kept dropping and as the hotel filled up in the evenings, it would be very, very slow.

Our parking was complimentary, but the garage is tight. Valet parking is available. It appears that bellhop service might be available -- but the serveral young men standing around didn't make it clear. Beware the luggage carts - unfortunately, these have seen better days and it can be a bit tricky navigating with their faulty wheels.

We did not eat in the dining room, but the menu looked fine and the appearance of the dining room was nice. We didn't visit the lounge, but we were given two free tickets for drinks upon check in.

One note, there wasn't a book of hotel services or spa menu in the room or any hints as far as activities in and around the area or local restaurants. If you can't find a restaurant you like in Daytona Beach, check out Ormond Beach.

Express checkout was provided and I noted at check in, there are extra fee opportunities to stay beyond check out time. Overall, it was a pleasant stay and we would stay there again.

Room Tip: Corner suites have great views on two sides. Ask if you will have access to the balcony - the hotel...

Thanks for all of the positive comments and constructive criticisms. You will be happy to know that we are halfway through in replacing those pedestal sinks with new vanities with more space for toiletries. We are also doing a considerable amount of work on the outdoor balconies which is why the patio door was sealed up. Those repairs will be completed soon.
We have a great team of associates here who are dedicated to serving our guests. Please come back soon!

Sincerely,

After leaving the dive we found 2 rooms here and was very happy. It was much cheaper and the hotel was very nice and clean. The girls at the front desk was very pleasant and helped us out. Found us 2 rooms on same floor and ocean view. Would recommend staying here if you are in Daytona.

Room Tip: Ocean view has a small deck and rooms are nice.

We stayed at this hotel for five days as we were at a conference. It may have been the special nightly rate we recieved but our room was rundown and cramped. We were on the river side of the hotel with a partial view of the beach.Thewindow wasn't airtight and the wind whistled through it at night. I had to wear earplugs. Hopefully as the hotel is undergoing renovations, the window will be replaced soon. The bathroom was very dated with rusty pipes showing and an old tub. There was little rooom to place toiletries. We didn't spend much time in the room. Housekeeping also forgot to clean our bathroom for two nights or leave us toilet paper and shampoo. I had to find a worker and ask her to help us. She was embarassed and came right over. We thanked her profusely.
The staff in Magnolias (hotel restaurant) was terrific! Helpful, friendly ,professional and the food was excellent there. I highly recommend dining there for breakfast and lunch.. The pool was pleasent however ,the ocean seagulls have a habit of bathing and floating in the pool which is less than sanitary. The beach is gorgeous and there is easy access to it.

Room Tip: Do not take a river view room. Dated and old furniture.

We stayed 5 nights for business, The entire staff is very nice, the hotel needs renovations and it seems like they are working on it. We stayed on the south side and had waterview plus city lights at night & sun on the balcony most of the day.(The building next door is run down & vacant but has a sold sign) Rooms are comfortable with a frig, mirowave & sink with counter area and free internet. I wish that when we got a nice day in February and people were near the pool they would put some towels out!

Room Tip: Queen Rooms are bigger, higher floors have better view.

We stayed here for 2 nights in an ocean view room (1201) and had a pleasant stay. The bed was comfy and the room was of a decent size. The view from the sliding doors to the beach was very nice. The balcony itself is a bit small and seeing the damage to the balconies above and beside you makes hanging out on the balcony rather uninviting. As far as the selecting the room with the best view, I'd suggest getting as high as possible (14 floors total, but there is no 13th floor) and if you book an ocean room, the first 4 on the floor have ocean views, with #1 being the one closest to the elevator shaft, and #4 being closest to the beach and having the slightly better view. So, room 1101, 1201, 1401 are closest to the elevator shaft while 1104, 1204, 1404 will have slightly better views as they are closer to the beach area.

Nice iron tub, a good countertop in the bathroom, but the old noisy exhaust fan and the old chipped door were signs that it is an older hotel that has somewhat been renovated. The couch in the room was a nice extra, but the cigarette burn on it wasn't. The towels and sheets were in the mid-grade level, not skimpy, but short of luxurious. The soaps, shampoo and lotion toiletries that the hotel provided were some of the best that we have experienced at any hotel. Two large bottle of Fuji water were included with the room which also was a very nice touch.

We booked online directly with the hotel and got the best price. By the time all of the taxes were added, it wasn't nearly as inexpensive, but at least they didn't charge us the extra $15 to park our car, even though we had to sign acknowledging that such a charge exists upon check-in. Since we had paid in full online when we booked it wasn't added to our bill. Could be a newer policy that didn't apply when we booked, I'm not sure. I certainly would not have taken it lightly......being ambushed with these charges upon arrival when it is not mentioned or clear when you book is a very poor business practice IMHO.

The hotel location is quite nice. We went to see a concert at the auditorium and it was a short 6 minute delightful walk. The boardwalk is walkably close as well. If you want to go to the main part of Daytona (near the Harley Davidson store and numerous sidewalk cafe's & shops) you'll need a car for a short drive. And if you choose to take a few laps around the speedway, you'll need a car (to get there) and some Alka Seltzer for when you are done.

You can spend a whole lot more money to stay on Daytona Beach and find luxury. But we found the Plaza to be a nice mid-priced alternative that we'd certainly stay at again in the future.

Room Tip: If you plan to go ocean view, the higher floor is better as the higher room number can further enhan...
