“Hot and down-hill from there!”
Reviewed August 26, 2004

We stayed here on our vacation in June of 2004! It was BAD! The air conditioner would not cool our room, the furnishings were awful, windows filthy, and the drains in the bath were S-L-O-W!! When we arrived and there was a box fan on the check in desk,I was fore-warned! Don't even think of eating at the grill by the pool--- we walked in and right back out! Nasty! The carpet in the corridors was wore out and only one elevator worked!! This might have been a nice place when it was built in the 60's, but it is way,way past its prime!!! We will never stay there again!!

After surviving Hurricane Charley, and then going through 4 days and nights without power or water, my family stayed at the Hawaiian Inn for the final night without power. We were given a lovely room on the second floor that had two double beds in one room and a full kitchen & queen pull out sofa in the second room. The room was very adequately air conditioned. The sofa bed was broken, but the sofa was big enough & comfortable enough to just sleep right on it. It's not the Waldorf Astora, but the Hawaiian Inn is a lovely place to be with your family.

Please take our advise and choose another hotel for your stay. This hotel is old and aweful!!! The pictures look great but do not be deceived like we were. When we first arrived our hotel room door would not open. We went down to the front desk three times to have the card corrected before we could get in our room. The maintenance guy had to work on our door for 2 hours. While were waiting the two hours we heard the guest next door screaming and fighting. Shortly after the cops arrived. The environment is not kid friendly. Lots of people drinking. The beds were swaying in the middle like boats. The only good thing about this hotel was the ocean front view. We decided to move to another hotel after staying two nights in this dump. We stayed at the Boardwalk Inn right next to the Boardwalk (walking distance to everything) at a cheaper rate. The Boardwalk Inn was great. I almost forgot....We bought post cards and stamps from the Hawaiin Inn gift shop and mailed them from the front desk. When we got home from our trip we asked our family and friends how they liked the post cards but they never received them. Please research well before choosing a hotel in Daytona. Most of the hotels are run down unless their near the boardwalk.

I booked the Hawaiian Inn for 2 nights in May-an Oceanfront with Balcony, through Expedia. My husband and I were looking for a nice, peaceful place to relax and enjoy the Florida sun. Let me just say-the photos and descriptions on the website are NOT even REMOTELY accurate. This is a depressing and dirty hotel. As soon as we entered the lobby, I knew we had made a mistake. An exhausted woman at the front desk was fielding phone calls and trying to assist a LONG line of wet, sandy, hot and irritated guests. There seemed to be no airconditioning-just an ancient ceiling fan that wasn't doing the trick! When we finally were helped-we asked to see the room first-before checking in- and Thank God! First we squished down a depressing mustard-yellow hallway, on a filthy carpet, soaked with at least an inch of water! The room was depressing and shabby, reeked of smoke and when we pulled back the grimy curtains to see our "balcony" we found a grubby patio right on the miniature golf course-with several players practically on top of us! We were very disappointed and there was no way we were going to stay there! The woman at the front desk was very nice when I explained it just wasn't what we were looking for, and did not charge us for cancelling at the last minute. But the saga did not end there; we had a hellava time finding a decent place to stay in Daytona Beach! We are not snobs, and a simple room is always fine, but CLEAN is mandatory. I've been reading some of the other comments here about Daytona Beach Hotels and I would have to say: "Beware!" The hotels are cheap, for a good reason. We looked at many other hotel rooms and found the same things described on this website-bugs, dirt, sandy and wet elevators, hallways smelling of urine, grimy curtains and bedspreads etc. We eventually stayed at the Hilton which was expensive, but spotless and comfortable, with a gorgeous balcony right on the beach. (I was very surprised to see some negative reviews here about this hotel!) We ended up loving Daytona Beach and people were extremely friendly to us, but hopefully Daytona's hotels will clean themselves up!

Having never been to Daytona Beach it was an interesting experience shopping for a decent place to stay while sticking to a budget and hoping for the best! We chose the Hawaiian Inn after reading the various reviews, and stayed there from August 1-6. We did go through a private owner so did not really have to deal with the staff at all. The room was keyless entry, so we did not even have to check in or out which was nice! We stayed in a one bedroom suite on the 2nd floor directly over the pool. It was decorated cute; it was stocked adequately with more than what we even needed or used, and everything was in good working order. There was no screen door to the balcony, but we did not find that to be a major problem. The view was really nice. The only thing I can think of that we might have been able to use would have been some sort of drying rack for the towels since we did not have the benefit of receiving fresh towels everyday. There is access to washers and dryers, however. It is true that the hallways could use a little sprucing up, but for the most part the place has a nice atmosphere with the Hawaiian theme, and the grounds seem to be very well kept. The lounge chairs that are set up directly over the beach area are especially nice for just listening to the surf even in the evening. Overall, we thought it was a great place to stay, right on the beach for a decent price, and we would stay there again!

After booking the trip and then reading the reviews, I was very nervous on what to expect. But all and all the stay was acceptable. The people were very pleasant, the pool was nice, the beach beautiful. Some reviews complained of loud music. We had a room on the end, overlooking the beach and pool area. We stayed 1 week and only seen and heard any music once on Saturday afternoon and it was very pleasant. The singer had an excellent voice and excellent choice of music. Granted the room could of been cleaner and the stove upgraded but we had a kitchen and we had a balcony overlooking the beach so we cleaned the bathroom and kitchen and enjoyed ourselves. The elevator was warm, so we used the stairs when we could. The hallways were warm and some had an odor but it was bearable. If your room is acceptable and the people are nice, then thats all you need. Enjoy the balcony over the beach as we did, enjoy the pool, the beach and then get out and enjoy the rest of Daytona. The only difference in the pictures basically is the kitchen isn't as nice as shown. But you make the best of what you have and enjoy! I cannot wait to go back!!

Our stay at the Hawaiian Inn was from July 21, 2004 thru July 24th. The hotel was pleasant but not as described. The rooms are "older" with inadequate air conditioning, old furniture, bad carpeting and bad TV reception. Our room was an oceanview efficiency. This is probably the only thing that was as described! Our room was not cleaned either of the days we were there, even though we asked for an early cleaning each day as we had small children that needed to take naps. We had to request clean towels every day. On Friday, after spending the entire day at the pool, my son's wallet was stolen from his backpack at the pool. Upon our discovery of this, we went directly to the front desk, where we were greeted "poorly" showing no concern at all. Both people at the desk had no idea on how to proceed. When the manager returned from who knows where, she had the same attitude...not our fault, who cares. Wouldn't do a thing for us. We contacted the police, filed a report and left this property never to return again. After spending almost 2 hours at the front desk during this process with these people, when we checked out later that night, they didn't recognize us, asked us our name and room number and never, ever mentioned anything about the theft. The front desk people were absolutely horrible and the manager is included in that statement. As a matter of fact, she was worse. She hid in the back room most of the time during this process. Stayers beware...not as it seems.
