“South Tower has been renovated...”
Reviewed December 26, 2012

This was our first trip here, but I am an owner but was put in the South tower which others have given negative reviews because of it's condition; happy to report that the room I was in on the 15th floor was very newly renovated. In fact the pull out beds looked as if they had never been used. In any regards to the unit, it was huge and the location couldn't be better. You can see the wear and tear if you look hard for it, but anyone who has stayed at a beach resort or condo should realize that happens no matter how hard ownership tries. The hotel had various activities going and a nice pool area for kids. Without knowing Daytona that well I can't imagine a better location; you can literally walk less than a city block to twenty different places to eat, get coffee, shop, or watch a movie. Overall this was a great place to visit and we will definitely return.

We went here and decided we would stay for 2 nights, met with friends and hung out. You have to wash your own towels, bedsheets ect. which is fine if you already knew about it. No shampoo, kept calling us to go to the "time share" event which we didnt know it was a time share place, we thought it was just a condo hotel type. Told us check out time was 11am but turns out it was actually 10am so ofcourse we were unprepared to leave by the time the maid was there. Then she kept telling us to leave and in the end we were pretty much kicked out. Very strict on how loud music is. Good for the view if its ocean front and lots space. Our room was clean, bed was uncomfortable, when we tried the sofa bed it was the same thickness as our actual bed (about 3 inches deep). People where banging, or what sounded like hammering next door, and the person above us was drilling both nights we were there, no ice machine. AC was very loud no room service either, was kind of expensive for it to turn out so bad. All in all, i dont think i would really recommend it.

Room Tip: Choose ocean front if you do book here

I am not a High maintence person, but this hotel is simply not the place you want to take your family. The only person who was kind and friendly was the person trying to sell us a time share. Every day we had a major maintence problem and it became very clear that rather than inspecting the room for issues, they simply wait for an occupant to call (however, the phone system was regularly not working, so we often needed to walk down to tell someone about that days issue). If you prefer sitting or swimming in the shade, this may be a good pool choice for you.. The entire pool area is shaded by noon and for the precious 2 hours of sun when people are out enjoying the pool (from 10am to noon) is the time the hotel chooses to power wash the entire deck...so during that time, we couldn't even hear eachother with 4 very loud power washers and hoses draped over our chairs. The hottub alarms were the only thing we could hear over the motors and no one was around to explain to people why the alarms kept going off. The staff was not helpful or friendly. A simple smile would have gone a long way. They didn't seem to have any concern for the guests. There was a major issue with our room every day, including but not limited to the following: the coffee maker didn't work, the drapes in the master bedroom were not attached and they were unable to repair cause they had to order the new hooks which they said the cleaning staff must have discarded, the washing machine stopped in the middle of every cycle..which we were also told they couldn't repair..given that they make you wash your own pool towels and WILL NOT Make any exceptions, a working washing machine becomes a necessity rather than just a convenience, the door for the second bedroom wouldn't shut and the repair men had to come in and cut it down to fit (clearly, someone should have notified them of such a major issue before we checked in) our room had an incredible view of an ally with a huge trash dumpster and loud trucks as well as the hotel rooms next door which became incredibly awkward considering we had no working drapes in our master bedroom. I was told later that we were put in one of the bad rooms because we were disney vacation club owners and not owners of whydham and if we would buy into Wyndham, we would have been given a better room. When it rained, both of the windows had an incredible amount of water coming in through the windows. I was very careful to approach the staff with a very friendly demeanor because they seemed annoyed when I asked for help or to let them know what the people by the pool were all complaining about. They didn't ever send a staff out to address the concerns even though everyone out by the pool was upset that they couldn't hear or understand why the hottub was so hot that it was scalding anyone who dared to dip their foot in (that tub remained unusable for the week we were there with no sign to warn people to not use it). I cant count the number of people who scalded their feet or had crying children cause they dared to take a step in.
I am writing this not just out of dissapointment that I wasted a precious week with my children and my limited vacation budget as a single mom, but in hopes that you, as you consider where to take your family, have the information I so wish I would have had before I chose this hotel.

hotel very nice, although we never had water presuure for showers on 17th floor or hot water. If you were going to book this you can get same value but 2 to 3 bedroom at condo owned by same company right next door, same property just condo rentals. Need to remember there is no maid service you are on your own, for garbage clean towels.

Spent a week in early November at the Wyndham Ocean Walk in Daytona Beach Florida. The resort is exactly what we have come to expect from Wyndham. Clean, well maintained, modern apartments and courteous and professional staff. Our apartment was 1 BR oceanfront with a balcony, our view was amazing. The pigeons however, are a nuisance. Some people actually feed them so they land all over the balcony’s looking for food, one even walked inside when I forgot to close the screen door. Most units seemed to be oceanfront or city view, which was nice too. There are some units located on an inside hallway (we saw our neighbors, which she hated.). Her’s was small and the living room window looked onto the hallway and people walking by were right there able to look in. Sort of like that John Candy movie when they have the beach rental with the public walkway outside his window. Our unit was a spacious 1 BR with 2 bathroom sinks, 1 outside the bathroom, 1 in, a Jacuzzi, full kitchen, flat screen TV’s, W/D and the largest, most comfortable bed we have every slept in! We’ve stayed at several Wyndham properties and they never have enough towel racks in the bathrooms. There were a couple minor problems that staff corrected right away and did a great job following up on too, one being a missing coffee maker.

Ocean Walk is located directly on the beach on A1A. The area is a bit shady although it appears to be under revitalization. There are newer, big name hotels being built, and a lot of the little motels are being torn down. There are a lot of empty buildings and homeless and drunken people laying on the streets. We were advised not to walk the streets or boardwalk at night by several locals and not to park in the public garage. Ocean Walk has 2 large pools, an indoor pool, a kiddie pool, 2 jacuzzi’s, a lazy river, a nice gym and other amenities we didn’t use, plus the beach is only steps away. The outdoor tiki bar, Turtle, closed early, 5pm, we were told by the bartender because it is off season and the service was very slow there. Inside the lobby, there is an indoor bar/small restaurant/pizza place and convenience store. If you walk out the gate you are at the Ocean Place/Walk Shoppes and it has 3 or 4 places to eat, such as Sloppy Joes and Forrest Gumps, a movie theatre and some shops. There is also a big band shell for outdoor concerts, and a paved park and down the boardwalk is a small amusement park and a bit farther is Joes’ Crab Shack out on the pier and it’s free to walk the pier. There are a few other restaurants/bars/tourist shops in walking distance on A1A but again, we were advised not to walk there at night, so we drove to different places. I would suggest you have a car. There is a bus that runs along A1A, but really if you want to leave the beach area you need a car. There is a Publix down the road for groceries. Daytona Beach allows cars to drive on the beach, which is a bit weird given how non-evironmentally friendly that is. People are sunbathing right next to the “road”, they charge you $5 to drive the beach. The area in front of Ocean Walk however is closed to cars so you don’t have to worry about getting run over trying to get to the water. Parking on site is very, very tight. Overall, we had a very nice stay and would definitely visit again. BTW, we are not owners, we are “guests” who rented the unit.

It has been a few years since we had been to the Ocean Wak but knew it would have activities for the grandchildren. We arrived on Friday Nov. 30 and rented a 2 br 2 bath . Check in was a breeze and found the rooms large with plenty of room to rest and move around in. We had a nice balcony with good ocean veiw on the 15th floor in the NORTH tower. The elevators work fast whcih is a plus compared to most hotels. Even though it was a little chilly for swimming weather the kids had fun in the lazy river, slide and heated pool. Wi Fi was very good being on the 15th floor. Some people may thing the following are not the best but I understand the reason for most after thinking about it. 1. You sign out for pool towels and if not returned they tell you there will be a charge to your account. 2. They want your ID when you need a luggage cart and of course you get it back when you return it. 3. They do not change out towels but there is a small washer and dryer in our room (we knew about this and brought our own all in one det and fabric sheet). The kids went home after a couple of days and my wife and I stayed a few more and just relaxed. All in all a very good time at the Ocean Walk for us. No congestion , slow season . Very relaxing vist to Daytona Beach compared to the crowded times when we go there each summer.

Room Tip: We like the North tower better and have stayed in both. At the far end of the South tower you will b...
