You would never expect to see this little place where it sits. That's because it's been sitting and cooking in the same place since the 50's. This restaurant, which from the outside looks more like a diner, sits on 441 in Davie, in a very industrial, business area. But once you pull into the parking lot, which is around back, and open up your door, the smell of hickory smoke tells you that you have arrived. In South Florida it's hard to find really good old fashioned Southern bar-b-que, and I'm a connoisseur of sorts. Being from Alabama, which has definitely some of the country's Q, no offense to Texas, I am always on the look out for some tasty pork. And this is the place. Great servings, great sides, and great sauces. This place has it all. Except a credit card machine, so make sure to bring cash, and possibly some extra napkins, cuz it's hmmmmmm good.

Fantastic food; So dependable you know what you can expect on your next visit. Best sausage gravy in the U.S.A. Ribs are what all other BBQ joints try to imitate.
If it wasn't good, they wouldn't have lasted this long.
Be aware: CASH ONLY!!!!

Been there several times for breakfast and lunch. Today for lunch. Had BBQ chopped pork sandwich deluxe, which means it comes with fries, cold slaw and a dill pickle for $8.50.. Plenty to eat and is always tasty. Established in 1953, they are always busy. Good pit cooked pork, beef and chicken. Never been disappointed for breakfast. Quite a way from my home but will go back when in the area.

Have been many times in the past, was always good, this last visit left me very disappointed.

We walked in the door and things were "dirty". Table and bar top were very sticky, floors were a mess, and everything looked "run down". Bathroom was a mess. I appreciate this place as "historic", but it was not up to historic standards.

The "cook" behind the bar was handling cash at the register, then preparing plates and handling food with bare hands when done with the cash. WITHOUT washing hands after handling the cash.

Food was mediocre at best, arrived with half of a hot dog bun on plate for bread. Beef Ribs were chewy, no baby backs on the menu, chopped pork was chewy, seemed over done. Kids had stomach issues when we got home.

What happened to this place?

Unfortunately, i wont be back.

This is one of the old style independent pit barbecue restaurants from the past that has survived, not because of someone buying in or other financial support, but because they serve some of the best tasting food and very reasonable prices. My favorite is their ribs a product of slow smoking and lots of attention. They give you enough so that anyone will be filled, I usually take home one or two because the platter comes with great hot crisp french fries and perfect coleslaw. When I can talk myself into some of the other dished, the pork sandwich platter is the next most favorite and one that no one is going to beat, great smoked pork flavor, not smothered with sauce - just the basics and the platter because you get the fries and coleslaw too. The Brunswick stew and fried chicken are great too, but it is so hard to not get one of the others. The breakfast is great too, they make their own sausage for the home made biscuits and sausage gravy, do not make you go broke either. Yes, it is cash only, yes the table space is limited, yes the counter is short - but enough. It is amazing how many get through the place and everyone just seems to flow through without too many problems, If you like desserts, the pies offered will really confuse you as all are homemade and one is better than the next. Enjoy!
