We were picked up, with one other couple, at a location just outside Ft. Myers Beach at 7:30am, and for the rest of the day the four of us didn't have to worry about a thing. Manfred, our guide and driver, was wonderful. Great sense of humor, and kept us informed throughout the day. Even provided binoculars for our use for the day. The boat ride was relaxing and fun - saw lots of birds from eagles to herons, as well as dolphins. The airboat ride was amazing. So many alligators! We stayed close to shore so also saw many birds and the occassional cow - Manfred said there must be a hole in the dairy farm's fence. Manfred took us down a dirt road to see the different landscapes of the Everglades and was very willing to stop for photos at any time. We went at the end of the "dry" season so not much water throughout, but Manfred described what it would be like after the rains come so well that we could visualize it.
The trip isn't cheap, but we found it a great way to see the most of the Everglades for the least amount of stress - actually, no stress. We would definitely recommend it.
