“Good for a brief stop”

Stayed here for one night before a cruise. The room was spacious and clean. The lobby is colorful and large enough to accommodate the guests, but it gets a little tight when we all come down with luggage. I couldn't choose anything to eat at the in house bistro, but the restaurant around the corner serves good food and large portions.

The front office staff was very helpful with information and the shuttle is convenient.

Room Tip: The train running on the south side could be distraction, but it does not run through the night.

My family selected this hotel for a one night stay before our cruise departed. We chose it based on the free shuttle from the airport and to the cruise terminal at Port Everglades. The room was large and clean (although the bed wasn't the most comfortable) and the shuttles were prompt and served their purpose. However, this hotel is kind of secluded from restaurants (and most everything). The only thing available within walking distance, other than the hotel bistro, is a middle/high end seafood restaurant with such offerings as dolphin and alligator (a little too exotic for this mid-westerner and her picky kids). So, we drove a few minutes away to a development with many shopping and dining options. Yikes! The three police cars out front of the restaurant should have tipped me off about the area. As the night went on, the crowd seemed to get rougher and more boisterous, and I felt extremely uncomfortable eating there with my young kids.

Thank you for your review! I too am from the mid-west and can understand as Islamorada does give a true Florida experience! Where did you all end up going that had the rough crowd? Fort Lauderdale Beach and Dania Beach are both within fifteen minutes of our hotel and we always try to steer folks to the best areas! Please let me know for the future.

Thanks again for staying with us.

My son and I stayed here, one night, at the end of a trip in order to be close to airport for an early departure. What a pleasure to check in to this lovely hotel. Very mod lobby, with a good bistro for afternoon snack.
Our spacious room was on top floor, complete with small refrigerator and large desk. The decor is so tasteful, the beds so comfortable, what a nice step up from the Hampton Inn Coral springs where we had been.
This place apparently caters to cruise ship crowd, but the night we were there, it was uncrowded and pleasant.
An easy 15 minute drive to the beaches.

My husband and I stayed at this hotel for the night before our cruise and the night after we got back. The free shuttles were amazing and helpful. The only thing is that they do not shuttle from the cruise port back to the hotel, so we used All Star. It was $11.00 per person and the drive was very professional! I recommend that service as well.

The first night we stayed on the 20th, the bed was extremely uncomfortable. That is my only complaint about the entire experience. It was really hard and we were really stiff when we woke up.
The second night we stayed on the 26th, the bed was extremely comfortable. Not sure why there was such a difference, but it was huge.

The little restaurant is very convenient. We bought coffee there both mornings and it was delightful.
There really is nothing within walking distance except Bass Pro Shop (which has a little seafood restaurant inside of it)
Great hotel, great staff!

Room Tip: Choose a room away from the train tracks!

We satyed 2 nights at this hotel and the attentions and acomodations were great. Hotels has a fancy lobby, cafeteria food is very good, pool is great for kids and it has a hut tub whirlpool, fitness center and business center. I recomend this hotel since is close to the airport.

Flying in the night before leaving on a cruise, we chose to stay at this hotel based on convenience - they offered a free shuttle from the airport to the hotel, and from the hotel to the cruise port the next day. In fact, they marketed themselves as a convenient way to get from the airport to the hotel and the hotel to your cruise ship. This is not exactly true, and there is little convenient about this hotel. Our room was clean, comfortable, and up to Courtyard Marriott standards, but the hotel itself is very poorly run. After you land, you must call the hotel to ask to have their shuttle come pick you up at the airport. When I called, no one answered after 20 rings. I called again - no answer. On the third call, the desk clerk answered and said the shuttle was on its way. But it turns out the shuttle runs constantly. And there were already at least 20 people in line waiting for it when we got to the loading zone... so why do you have to take the step of calling? When we arrived at the hotel, there were only 2 desk clerks to deal with the 20 people that got off the shuttle and were trying to check in. That took a lot of time. No wonder no one answered the phones. The lobby is VERY small, with a snack bar/restaurant that backs right up to the entry door and check-in desk. Between the people getting off the shuttle bus, their luggage, the people in the restaurant, and others coming in/out the main door, there was nowhere near enough room for everyone. So as you stand in line to check in, people are pushing past you to go outside, go to the elevator, go to the restaurant, etc. There is one painfully slow hydraulic elevator. For all these people I'm talking about, there is one elevator. We had to wait for the 3rd elevator car before we could get on. Once we got to our room, it was fine, no problems. But when we went downstairs to get some food (there is nothing nearby you can walk to), we realized the hotel restaurant is more of a snack bar. That's usually OK, I don't mind going out, but this hotel is in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by the kind of neighborhood you find near the airport. It took us a $25 cab ride each way to get to a restaurant.

Now, about getting to your cruise ship. First, you have to sign up for the shuttle to your cruise ship. on a first-come, first-serve basis. If a large group of people happens to sign up just before you arrived, oh well. When you sign up, you are told to be in the lobby at a designated time. Our time was 12:00 noon. At 11:30, just to be safe, we came to the lobby and found it in looking like the airport of a third world country. It turns out the hotel had shuttles running to 4 different cruise ships (that I could count), and the lobby was so full of people and luggage that you could barely get off the elevator. There was one woman - ONE WOMAN - walking around with a clipboard weaving through the crowdd trying to find people for the shuttle bus that was loading. It's way too loud to hear her making any announcements, so she has to work her way around the room repeating herself. Apparently, even though they market themselves as the "cruiseport hotel" and run people to cruise ships every single day, it has never occurred to them that a) the lobby is not big enough for this, and b) it would make a lot more sense to put up different signs for the different cruise ships then let passengers sort themselves out. Who knows, maybe passengers would even start a line instead of standing on top of each other. The poor woman with the clipboard should be given a raise, because her job sucks. She was running around trying to find people, everyone kept stopping her to ask questions or complain about how poorly managed it was, people were nervous because there was not enough information being given and they were worried about missing their cruise - - and there were so many people in the lobby it was loud and hot, even by Florida standards. Two or three shuttle buses would pull up and leave every 15 minutes or so, but they had no markings on them to tell you which bus was going to which cruise ship. That's right, you can only count on that one harried woman with a clipboard to help guide you. At 1145 we pushed our way through the crowd to her to find where to get on our bus, because we had signed up the day before for the 12:00 shuttle. She told us "Sorry, I've already filled that one up. I'll try to get you on one later this afternoon." It was a like a Seinfeld moment - "I don't think you really understand what a reservation is..." With a lot of complaining, she finally let us on the shuttle bus but told us we would have to stand for the 15 minute ride to the cruiseport. Other passengers were kind enough to rearrange and let us sit.

I will give them credit, they did get us to the right boat before it left. But because of our experience at the start of the cruise, we cancelled our reservation at the Courtyard for the end of the cruise. We moved to the Marriott on the beach in Hollywood instead. It cost me a cab ride out to the hotel and back to the airport the next day, and it was worth every penny. The hotel was well run, was actually in a nice location (rather than in no-man's land), and it didn't cost any more than the Courtyard.

Avoid this place if you can!

I would be frustrated too but I have a few questions as well so that I can better understand your impressions as the hotel does have a Market adjacent to the front desk for 24/7 food and beverages but our Bistro is a full restaurant with food and beverage selections ranging from soups, salads, burgers, ribs, flatbreads, etc. Also, Islamorada Fish Company is an additional full service restaurant adjacent to the hotel. The hotel has three elevators with two dedicated exclusively for our guests and our lobby can seat over 150 if it were needed. The shuttle service is not first come first serve and we promise our guests they will get to the port within the hour they sign up for. Please call me at the hotel so that I can make this right with you and to better understand your experience.

Sincerely,
Chad R. Brunton

We stayed for two nights at this location before a cruise. Two people from this hotel are just amazing - Karen, cruise director and Brian were just awesome. Brian is very accommodating, helping our family with an early check-in at 8:00 am. We had requested for rooms within the same floor and he did more than that - he gave us an adjoining room! Karen was very good in keeping us on time for our cruise and gave extra help to my mom who was in a wheelchair.
The rooms are clean and spacious. The lobby of this hotel is awesome. It is massive. Lots of chairs and tables to sit while waiting for the shuttle bus. Their little treat (candies) at the Guest Services is appreciated. They were good candies. Our stay did not come with a free breakfast but the food in the restaurant was reasonable. If ever we go back to FLL, we will definitely stay in this hotel again.
