The Plantation building is different from chain hotels. Driving under the trees to the reception is impressive and you feel relaxed.
Check in was done in less than five min.We had booked a patio-room canalside on the ground floor - it was worth the surcharge. Unfortunally a cold wave hit southern Florida that week so we couldn't enjoy the outside sitting 100%. But the few hours we spent on the patio were great. Although there's no privacy on the patio as it must be shared by four rooms. There are only a few clean patio- chairs beside many weather beaten and filthy ones. That just doesn't suite an upscale hotel.
The room was large and updated in bright colors, we felt very comfortable. The carpet was spotless (looked new) as everything in the room and bathroom. The aircon (used it to heat the room) is modern and operates not too noisy. Flat TV, midsize fridge and a coffee maker stocked with delicious Puck-Coffee. Thanks to the friendly housekeeping lady who provided us with additional patties. No safe. In room internet is charged for, but self-parking is free.
The bath-/shower/ toilet room is equipped with modern fittings as is the sink in the anteroom.
Time to update the hallway which shows sign of wear and stains. Some parts of the buildings outside are battered by huminity. We didn't use the beautiful pool (cold wave!) but rated the sunbeds: filthy and weather beaten. Walking to the gazebo I nearly stepped into a dogs left over - pet owners - please pick up.
The (early bird) diner at the restaurant was delicious and reasonable priced. The service was perfect, just what you expect at an upscale restaurant.

Yes, we saw a dolphin splashing in the canal just in front of our room, but he didn't come back the next days.
Overall the cons are minor and we enjoyed our relaxing stay in a beautiful, quiet room at the Plantation, we'll definitly return.

I have attended conferences and vacationed around the world. I found that the Plantation on Crystal River is the very best! A combination of beauty, comfort and friendly service. It all works so very well. The room was clean, comfortable and ready perfect in all respects. It had welcome all over it. The conference setup was functional and exceeded all of our needs. From the warm welcome at the front desk to the beautiful mermaids in the pool, it was a perfect experience.

First stop after a long haul flight and getting lost driving out of Orlando airport, but as we entered the hotel all the hassles of the journey dropped away. Staff very welcoming, nice big room with comfortable bed, great bathroom. Only gripe that the room was not as shown on the website - we paid for a waterside room, but were not were on the first floor so no "door" to the waterfront, and in fact virtually no view of the water at all.
Good breakfast, even on an early start.

Room Tip: Check exactly what you're getting for your room.

This is a very 'upscale' place. From the moment you enter you are made to feel special and very welcome. This is the epitome of 'southern' elegance and style. The decor is refined and immaculate the staff are there but not in the least intrusive. The Sunday brunch is exceptional! You can have everything from fresh fruit, Eggs Benedict or fresh shrimp to fabulous roast beef carved for you. This is a buffet of a very high standard and varied to suit all tastes! I cannot comment on price as we were taken as guests by some very good friends to whom we will be eternally grateful, but I imagine it is quite expensive although I can assure you it is worth every cent.

When you pull onto the grounds, trees dripping with Spanish moss, you know you have arrived somewhere special. The hotel is in a quiet area, on a canal which leads to King's Bay. Besides the mandatory dive shop, nature tours and kayak rentals; there is a croquet course, spa, golf course, horseshoes, pool and hot tub. The large pool is heated, and an interesting three lobed shaped. Our room was well lit and spacious, the rugs were definitely dated. Our bed was comfortable. There is a dining area inside with a fireplace as well as a bar outside. (We didn't eat at them.) We come to Crystal River often, this was our first visit to the Plantation, but it won't be our last.

Room Tip: Pay attention to your room smell. The windows don't have screens, and doors open to a hall, so air turnover can be limited.
