this is the worst hotel? i've ever stayed in, the rates are competive with other hotels in the area, but the standards are well below standand, the ceilings have cracks all thru them, the musky smell reaks in the room,
the air conditioner sounds like it will fall out of the wall when it comes on, and doesn't even blow cold air, the bed is the hardest bed I've ever encountered. the floor was more comfortable, they advertise this hotel as being biult in the 40's, and apparently has had no updates since, I left in the hotel in fatigue at 3.30 a.m. to go someplace else to get some sleep, it's okay if your not going to sleep while there, and it's cold out side. however, the restaurant was very good the service and food were excellant, the veiw fron the water was great.

This is THE hotel to use if one is planning a kayak/snorkel trip on Kings Bay. I stayed 2 nights in a room only 50 feet from the put-in. The hotel restaurant was above average on food quality, and much better than average on cost. The room was clean, but a wreck. The hotel is planning to tear down two of the buildings, and obviously aren't maintaining ceilings, walls, etc. Would stay again, but only because of the convenience to the water.

Just got back from 2 nights at the Port Hotel and Marina in Crystal River, FL. This is one of the worst hotels that I've ever stayed in. We got the last room on a busy President's Day weekend, but, from glimpsing inside other rooms, I don't think they were in any better condition. Upon arrival, we noticed that the roof of the office was sagging and looked like it could collapse at any moment. The other buildings on the property were in similar states of neglect. The room reeked of cigarette smoke despite the large non-smoking sign on the room door. The air conditioner could only be turned on and off by inserting and pulling the plug because the other controls had been torn off. The room was covered in stains, cracked plaster and rusted fixtures. The real showstopper was when the room upstairs took a shower and water started flowing through our bathroom ceiling into our bathtub. They had actually cut a small hole in our ceiling so that the water could flow more easily. Fortunately we were not in our shower at the time.

On the positive side, the main attraction in Crystal River is seeing and swimming with the manatees that winter there. The hotel was located right on the river about 500 feet from the main manatee area. It had the best location of any of the hotels that we saw in the area. There is a good dive shop on site that rents all necessary snorkeling and scuba gear, boats and kayaks. We didn't eat at the on-site restaurant but it looked to be in much better condition and had a nice deck overlooking the river. The bed was comfortable and the sheets were clean (though the bedspread had cigarette burns). We were on the ground floor, but the second floor rooms looked like they had nice views of the river. FYI, dive gear was really unnecessary. The manatees much prefer approaching snorkelers and there isn't much to see in the one area deep enough to scuba dive in. Rent a boat and try snorkeling before you waste money renting dive gear.

They have an absurd "Live the Dream" promotion bragging that Elvis stayed at the hotel while filming in the area and calling itself a resort. Don't believe the hype unless they do some major renovation in the meantime. If staying on the river and being able to roll out of bed and into the water with manatees are your priorities, it might be worth putting up with the hotel's terrible condition. Otherwise stay at one of the newer chain motels by the highway and drive to the dive shop. Cheers.
