Review of Manatee Connection

Manatee Connection
Reviewed November 28, 2013 via mobile

We had the most wonderful manatee sightseeing trip/encounter with Captain Hank and Manatee Connection. Captain Hank went out of his way to accommodate us on our Florida road trip, even agreeing to start our trip earlier than usual and take us out on Thanksgiving Day. As our Captain he was friendly and fun, but always concerned about our safety and the well being of the manatees. He made an additional suggestion that we swim up the outlet of a spring called "Three Sisters" and the water was super clear with a sandy bottom. It was challenging swimming against the current and the visibility was fantastic. My 11 year old daughter actually liked it better that swimming with the manatees. There was no shortage of manatees to be seen and even as we were passive observers, some manatees came up to us for a gentle rub on the back. Although my husband was an experienced diver, my daughter and I had never snorkeled and Captain Hank is a patient instructor for novices who may feel a little insecure. He offered to use our camera to take family photos and pictures of us in the water. At the end if our trip he warmed us up with hot chocolate and made recommendations for local restaurants and other area attractions. We had a super time and highly recommend Captain Hank and Manatee Connection.

My fiance and I did the manatee tour with Captain Hank in November 2013 and it was fabulous! Hank was able to take us out on short notice, was very nice/profesional, and obviously cared about the manatees and our safety as well. Snorkeling with the manatees is a not-to-miss activity while in Florida! We would definitely recommend Manatee Connection, it was a great experience and always good to support the small businesses.

We had a great time with Capt. Hank! Went out to see try to find manatees in the off season and we did! We have been out with him before for sunset cruises and have had a great time then as well. He is very personable and a wonderful guide. You will not be disappointed!

I found about about Capt. Hank from a referral from another boat captain. I'd looked up scalloping Crystal River in google and found a different charter but since it was the last weekend of scallop season they were booked solid. The other captain (after some coaxing) told me about Manatee Connection and recommended Capt Hank. I called MC, and spoke with Capt. Hank who still had the weekend open! His boat would only take up to 6 passengers, which in our case was perfect. Our family of three (including a 9 year old daughter) and two adult friends were booked. Capt. Hank does one run at 0830 and the total trip lasts around 5 hours (including boating to and from the scallop grounds, which is very pleasurable). If you can swim, you can scallop. He will even give a primer on how to snorkel. All the gear is supplied and water on board. We also brought coolers on board with drinks and sandwiches. The trip itself is completely pleasant, and Cpt. Hank will tell you all about the sites if your party is interested. He strikes that balance between professional and friendly - you know he knows what he's doing so you feel safe out on a boat, but you also like talking to him which is fantastic since again, you are on a boat. When you get to the grounds, he tells you what to look for and how far to stay near the boat. If the scallops are running well you'll stay awhile, if not, you get to boat to another spot nearby.. We saw starfish, snook, flounder, lizardfish, grouper, puffer fish and many, many more! Afterwards, he shows you how to clean the scallops or there are other options in town. The place he boats out of has picnic tables in a small park, which we enjoyed after showering off and changing. We will definitely book this same trip with Capt. Hank again and highly recommend it! ps. the pic is off my iphone using a lifeproof case (it really is waterproof!) :)

We had gone out with Capt. Hank two years ago and had a great time. Decided to come back this year and we were not disappointed. Capt. Hank is a great captain. You can tell he knows the water like the back of his hand. The ride out was great and so thrilling to be on the water. Hank found a great place for us to set anchor and snorkel. We came away with tons of scallops and Hank was really patient and showed us how to clean them, etc. we had the best time and thank Hank for making the experience so memorable and enjoyable for our family.
