The prices are arrogant. Sure the steaks are terrific tasting but to pay $48 for one steak and not even get rolls or any side dishes is insane. Service is absolutely horrible. Our groupf of 20 persons arrived at 8PM and did not receive our food until 10PM. They give you a smear of butter laced with bland cheese and melba toast as though they were doing you a favor. We ordered three side dishes of suateed mushrooms, cheese potatoes, and pasta thinking the serving sizes would be large. Wrong answer! The serving sizes allowed half of our guests to take a teaspoon size dollap upon their plate just to say they had some. The beverages are equally pricey. Thank God I drank water. Then there is the problem with their men's room. The sinks were filthy, the monogramed towels were nearly gone, the double roll toilet paper rolls were completely empty, the commode would not flush because guests were forced to use the monogram towels for private purposes and they would not go down. This was like eating at a 50's style Texaco truck stop.

Fleming's is another chain steakhouse trying to emulate The Palm, Mortons or Capital Grill. Although as pricey as these tried and true standards, Fleming's ambiance, food quality and service falls far behind the latter. The noise level in the Coral Gables restuarant is akin to Yankee Stadium leaving dining partners screaming at each other to be heard. The steaks and side dishes are less than flavorable. A request for a medium rare steak arrived at the table medium well. The $10.50 martini was 50% alcohol 50% ice water. Service was unreasonably slow from a 20 minute wait for the salads to a similar wait to return my charge card after paying the bill. When requesting a reservation, I was asked if our party was celebrating a special occasion. I replied that it was my daughter's birthday. I assume they wanted this information to provide a courtesy desert but nothing was offerred nor mentioned further. I doubt any of the wait or reception staff attained their 25th birthday yet which may account for the horendously poor management of this pretentious eatery.

There is an art to broiling steaks. Searing them rapidly enough to seal in the juices, yet keeping the exterior moist and not "crisp" Flemings cooks their steaks to perfection. For an appetizer the New Orleans style BBQ Shrimp was wonderfully authentic. The service was very good and the manager "made the rounds" as well, making sure all the patrons were comfortable and happy.
