Dinner last night at Christy's was very good. I hadn't been there in years after being a regular visitor for decades.
Some changes to note since my last visit; a beautiful (if small) bar has been added and a piano bar. Great place to hang out.
The service is excellent; this is a throw-back restaurant. Wood panels, comfortable leather chairs, and the menu includes fabulous French onion soup (knife needed for the cheese), black bean soup served with a side of sherry; garlicky escargots, baked potato with sour cream and chives, baked Alaska for dessert. The food delicious. All entrees include Caesar salad and a side (green beans almandine!). The portions are huge (the shrimp in the cocktail are a meal!). I had the prime rib (a speciality) with salad, green beans and a glass of cabernet ($11); $50. Unlike some of the other steak places where everything is ala carte. Friends had beautiful sea bass and salmon....everyone was happy with their choices.
Some changes that disappointed....the Caesar salad is no longer made at the table. The croutons appeared to be store-bought; and the lettuce seemed to be from a bag. The potato with sour cream and chives comes pre-mixed which gives a feeling of cafeteria dining. They used to serve the condiments separately; thus the rating is not Excellent.
